Go into macbook settings > Display and make sure the resolution is correct? You can adjust the bigger and smaller to see if it looks better.

Both MacBook and monitor resolutions are on the default. 2020 13" MacBook Pro. If I scale the monitor down it just gets larger and worse. Is the text on your external display sharp?

Default being what exactly? Apple is funny. Sometimes you have to hit the "option" button to see hidden resolution options.

I don't really know much, but for my dad to get his new Mac mini to work with his display, that's what he had to do.

Are you running it at the native 1440p resolution?
If so, then that's probably as clear as you can get it; it will never be as crisp as a Retina display.

In Windows I went thru the ClearType adjustment tool to make text a little better for my personal taste. Not sure if Macs have a similar tool.

Wish there were more options for 24" 1440p. I guess this is next best option to replace my Dell s2417dg. Tired of the TN panel on it.

i think this is it.. i think am too used to the retina dispay. graphics on the dell monitor look fine but the text looks "blurry" in comparison to the retina. the monitor is running native 2560x1440.
but i also still think macbook may be running at like a TV because my scaling options are
2560x1440
1080p
1080i
720p

Would a 4K monitor fix this blurry text issue ? Dell had a 4K for $300 but rather not deal with the hassle if it won't fix it. Read that retina has a much higher dpi than these monitors so maybe I'm expecting too much.

This is a known issue with M1 MacBooks, they can't scale resolution properly on external monitors. There's a forum thread on MacRumors detailing these issues with HiDPI scaling.

There are select 4K monitors that scale appropriately, but those are very limited.

In my view, it's a case of Apple engineers being pricks as all other laptops (older MacBooks included) can scale without any issues.

I am on the Intel MB Pro if that matters (and I tried the monitor on a MB Pro 2020 and a 2016 - both had blurry text on the Dell monitor). I read it may be a RGB detection issue and you can force MB to RGB but that does not seem to be the issue in my cace (monitor shows RGB). I'm so frustrated I spent $400 on this monitor and can't get sharp text which is very important to me.

Can anyone please suggest a Dell monitor to get sharp text with a MB Pro? I don't even might going down to a smaller monitor because text is more important to me than size or speed.
