Best to not have a phone if you worry a lot about this sort of thing.

I just checked the access permissions on the Google Play store and there's nothing about contacts or call history. You can verify this stuff yourself, you know.

I'm really happy with mine, this has been the normal low price for them, and the coupon code worked. Don't understand the two thumbs down.

Wtf would China want with any of this data. 99 percent of all of online monetary fraudulent activities are usually from either a roommate or a family member.

Bought this last time it was on here, I have nothing but positives to say about it. It was a little headache to connect to WiFi at first, but once connected, it's been a joy for smoking on the charcoal grill. Lets me easily monitor up to 3 meats and 1 for ambient temp of the grill. Compared to the older BT meat thermometer I had, this thing is significantly better. Seriously, pick it up.

Very enticing, but the app reviews on all of the InkBird apps look absolutely horrible. Lots of people complaining of issues that still haven't been resolved in over a year. Reviews saying the alarms are very unreliable in the app.
I'm not sure how you can reliably smoke food without alarms.

I have the BT version, I'll probably buy this for a few reasons:

1. Hopefully better range than BT
2. I like seeing all 4 temps at once instead of auto scroll with BT model
3. The color coded probes are very helpful.
prepare to be happy with your purchase. the other week i had the smoker rolling and was able to leave for a few hours to catch dinner and know that i had time to enjoy a few beers afterward, rather than rush home cause i didnt know if the temps rose faster than i thought. you can literally check temps anywhere your phone is connected to the web. i bought it for the smoker, but i also use it as a stove thermometer when im out hunting/fishing/fourwheeling. its great to know what time i need to head back to the cabin to pull a roast.

Be warned, in order to use any of the features, you need to download Chinese apps on your phone.

And give the app access to everything on your phone - contacts, call history, pictures, access to the camera. This app is a nightmare. I wouldn't put this on my neighbors grill, much less my own.

Well this sucks, talked me out of buying it.

Edit: I was thinking, if I wipe an old backup phone of all its data and just put this app on it, they wouldn't get much information out of me, correct?
i cant speak for iphones, but on android you literally choose which permissions to give it. in the case of this thermometer, it needs nothing but internet access permissions. its not getting access to your contacts, call history, camera, etc.

i feel like the 60-70 year olds in this thread need to put down the keyboards and stop giving tech advice.

I was talked into buying this over the Bluetooth, and after a a year, I agree.

USB charging is nice and goes with my phone charing.

I test boiling water, so it seems accurate.

I been using on steak, salmon on stove and other dishes in stove.

The alarm goes off on phone and device when it reaches the temperature.

WiFi means I can go to different room and wait for alarm to go off.

I can echo this. I have given it zero permissions on android. I may have given it something for initial setup, but removed it when done. A suggestion for all apps is to not give a permission just because it asks. Click no to check if the app works without.

As with all of my "smart" devices that don't need LAN access, it is setup on my vlan guest network.

I've had mine for a few months and it has worked perfectly for multiple smokes. I checked the probes to boiling water and only had to adjust one by a couple degrees.

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago. I had trouble getting accurate readings on at least 2 ports. One got stuck at 350. The other had trouble reading continuously. It read persistently a lower temp than actual.

Just here to offer my thumbs up on this too. I bought it on a previous sale at this price (seems to come around every three or four months) and have been really pleased. I haven't had an issue with any of the probes, but I mainly use it for low and slow smoking, so I haven't taken it to very high temps. It's really nice to be able to see the current temp and the temp history, even when you're away from the house while the smoker is going.

out of curiosity, i just installed the app on my tablet cause ive been meaning to have it on there as well, and it didnt ask for a single permission other than location. i denied it and it let me proceed. so the idea that it asks for all this other stuff like camera permissions is nonsense if on android anyway.

i asked my co-worker across the hall, and he said iphones offer the same amount of control. whether or not the app asks for said permissions to start though, idk. but either way, you can certainly turn off said permissions if you are afraid of the big bad china stealing your information.

i think mine is about 1 year old and every probe measures 212 when in boiling water, and they all climb at the same rate...

android or iphone? if the latter i cant help. if the prior... there is a solid chance the bad reviews are all people that didnt set the app up correctly in the android settings. its not a fault of the app, but of android. you need to turn power saving off for the app. basically android will shut down apps running in the background to save battery. it does this by default and you have to go into settings, apps, power saving, and turn it off on this app. its a common issue that people have with all sorts of apps... when notifications, alarms, or routines dont work, that is almost always the problem.

ive had this app running for about a year and never had a failed alarm.

thats the downside to reviews on the google play store. most people dont know what they are doing.

Nice, thanks! I was looking at Android. And as an Android app developer who also struggles with making sure our clients turn off battery saver, data saver, and exclude the app in 'always run in the background' for our app to run as expected, I understand perfectly.

But how would my contacts get a picture of my perfectly cooked BBQ without that access? 😅
