Or they simply just thoughtlessly regurgitate corporate-owned, anti-consumer gaming "journalist" talking points that take like 5 trolls off of Twitter, and use that as "proof" that people who don't like the game "just don't like women", to try and deflect any valid criticism of the game.
Borderlands 2 was my favorite game of all time, before destiny 2 came out, it was my most played game of all time (and I only played destiny to scratch the borderlands itch), I bought and loved bl1 on launch day as well. Pre sequel was pretty bad in the beginning and had pacing issues with the zero g stuff that slowed the beginning of the game to a crawl, but mid way through started improving a lot, and the claptrap matrix dlc (don't remember the title) was really good.
I pre ordered the 100 dollar digital edition of borderlands 3: I haven't even finished a single playthrough. The story and writing are awful and the jokes are just bad. It's like a poor caricature of the tone of bl2. The game has crashes for me regularly on ps4 pro (worst offender when it crashed at a boss fight that I had to waste time making my way back to just to redo).
As mentioned by other posters, weapons and even sometimes classes are nerfed regularly. I could have powered through the game I even with the terrible story and wokeness (two separate issues by the way, I don't only hate the story because it's woke, I hate it because it is just bad, unfunny and cringeworthy, I mean the main villains are friggin twitch casters ffs), but when they're constantly "balancing" (really this just means nerfing) my favorite weapons and abilities IN A SINGLE PLAYER/CO-OP GAME (no competitive aspect to this, let those who want to mow through enemies easily with their hard earned/grinded weapons enjoy themselves), I just gave up.
I've tried a few times to come back and finish it, since I feel like I need to at least beat it to justify the 100 bucks I spent on it, but I really can't. There's a good game underneath, I really like the combat, the graphics are good, the weapons seem really inventive and ridiculous fun, it's just MASSIVELY hampered by the inexcusably poor story, the constant nerfs which makes weapon hunting pointless, and for me the numerous crashes(I haven't checked if this is widespread or not). If I ever get a ps5, I'll probably force myself to finish it (framerates on ps4 pro are also bad me, even performance mode), but this is a FAR cry from bl2, where I beat the game twice or more with every character (even the dlc ones).
Saying, or implying things like "the people who don't like this are just mostly comprised of people who don't like women in games" is absolutely deceptive and ridiculous. I don't doubt there's a handful of people like that, as there's always going to be people on any side of any issue, but those people make up less than a quarter of a percent of people complaining about bl3. Nobody (and when I say nobody, I mean nobody other than this extremely small portion I just mentioned) are complaining about bl3 being worse for "having women in it" (as I explained above with bl2, this is just such a clear and utter bs excuse), unless your narrow viewpoint believes people who are anti-woke are the same thing as anti-women/diversity (they're not btw).
And also, a lot of people also just didn't like the epic exclusivity deal which kept bl3 from pc gamers who didn't want to install yet another launcher on their system (there was also privacy concerns whether the telemetry systems built into epic were shady and unnecessary, couple that with epic being in business with tencent, they were legitimate concerns)
This game, while not bad, was just a massive disappointment of people's expectations of what a borderlands game should be, expectations built from the amazing Borderlands 2.

that said, if you're interested i'd wait for a version with at least Season Pass 1 in it, the DLCs were fantastic additions, Season Pass 2 isn't worth the extra money to me.

The game play is fun. The addition of sliding and climbing were great. I enjoyed the DLC campaigns in the first season pass more than the base game.
I bought the base game for $10 and the Season Pass 1 for $25, and easily got my money out of both as a split screen couch co-op player.
