Amazon - Winning Moves Games Winning Moves No Stress Chess, Natural (1091) - $12.99

I just discovered this weekend my young son seems to enjoy playing chess. I did a quick amazon search to find something to help him learn (that was not a screen) and stumbled on to this set.

It seems simple enough to teach him the basics, and also future proof to play as a normal chess set.

The price seemed fairly reasonable (although not the best price historically), but still good.

Anyway, I thought I would share in case anyone else had any kids (or adults) that might find this useful.

Any tips from other parents to help promote the game of chess to your kids?

Enjoy!

This worked for us. My son quickly learned the basic rules of chess and how pieces moved at a very young age and didn't want to use the cards any longer (which is the goal).

A nice way to play with young/learning players as they graduate away from the cards is to force yourself yo only move based on the top cards, but to let the learner move any piece they would like.

If you're getting this as a board, don't, the pieces are really light and cheap and the board is rough. The concept is cool if you have kids but don't use it to learn as an adult
