Not sure how this line holds up, but our other Stride Rite shoes lasted way longer than several pairs of Oshkosh after many washes and stayed well stitched and soft

Thanks, I got the rose gold shoes for my daughter. I like this brand. I noticed in the reviews people noting that the shoes have stars on them which is not shown in the stock photo. Not a big deal, but just FYI for people purchasing them.

It really depends on the kid. I have two year old twins. My daughter is wearing a size 6 and my son wears a size 9. I would measure their foot or ask the parent if it's a gift.

18 month son always picks his stride rights over his crocs, adidas, converse, even house shoes. Love them, and they're pretty durable - had them over winter- rain, puddles, mud +

Stride Rite _WAS_ the #1 brand for kid shoes for the longest time because they spent a lot of their money on research and development. The entire process taught them that the best thing for a growing child, especially a baby is bare feet. Shoes are meant for protection. The shoes that bend the most and offer the most flexibility while still providing comfort are always the best.

A child who is not walking yet should not wear shoes. Stop thinking old school of "my kid needs wood planks on their feet". This was the way of our grandparents not our parents. Anything that mimic barefoot walking is what striderite aimed to make.

Now in the year 2021, Payless owns striderite. I can no longer speak to their quality.

Again my best advice is barefoot ESPECIALLY babies. They will bend their toes and flex their feet all day long. Anything that prevents this will stunt their growth and development. Allow their toes and feet to wiggle freely and they will build much stronger and more developed feet.

Last piece of advice is children and babies grow at least a half of size every 2-3 months. If you aren't changing their shoes that regularly then you're risking hammer toe and other disabilities.

Feel free to tag me if you need any advice beyond what I provided. I was a manager of a StrideRite for the majority of my youth prior to becoming a network tech.

If you're looking for something amazing for babies check out "robeez shoes" as they make the #1 selling baby "shoes". They are hard for kids to pull off but roomy and act more like socks than shoes. Great for when you have to put something on your kids feet.

PLEASE STOP THINKING YOU KNOW YOUR KIDS SHOE SIZE. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY YOU ARE PROBABLY WRONG. I spent my entire retail career trying to convince parents they were shoving their kids feet into shoes that don't fit. Find a person who actually knows how to properly use a Brannock foot measurer. I cannot tell you how few people who work in the shoe industry actually know how to properly measure kids feet. You can do serious long term damage to your children by being cheap or too ignorant to find the correct fitting shoes.

All shoes run different sizes. Just because your child fits in a size 10 in Nikes does not mean they will be in a size 10 in New Balance. Nike's run at least a full size or two small compared to all other shoe brands. New Balance tends to run true to size. This is true for all shoe manufacturers. Very few companies run their shoes True-To-Size. Just please stop it.

Your advice to "find a person who actually knows how to properly use a Brannock foot measurer" seems misguided. You yourself mention most people who work in shoe stores don't know how to use them. But if we ask, I'm sure they'll claim they do. Lacking a frame of reference, we won't be able to judge if they're right or not. People could be using a professional bozo their whole life because they have no way to judge for themselves.

I think much better advice is to say, "learn how to measure kids' feet properly". It's not rocket science.

Very useful response.

Always have the kid standing with equal weight on both feet. Make sure their foot is always completely back. Make sure the foot is completely flat. Pull on the end of their sock to ensure their socks aren't restricting the full length of their toes. After you have your measurement, and you have an appropriate pair of shoes to try on their feet, make sure they are still standing in the correct position with full weight on their feet. Run your thumb and point fingers around that outside of the sneaker material to ensure there is easy flexing in the material and no points of pressure where the child may need a wider width shoe rather than a standard variant. Always push on the top of the shoes near the toe box to ensure the child doesn't have their toes curled when to check the length as it's a habit for many children. Lastly check to ensure there is at least a thumb's width of length in the front for 2-3 months of growth, do easy multiplication if these shoes are being purchased in advanced say for the summer or winter compared to when they are buying.

Those are the general rules for measuring kids feet outside of just understanding how the brannock functions.
