Unless you're not going to need a rental car for some reason (like if you have friends/family there), take a look at those rates before you book.

6,000 miles round trip LAX to JNU is absolutely awesome, but then $1,361 a week for a Toyota Corolla...

Juneau has a great bus system you don't really need a rental car. Bus goes to glacier as well (for example)

Flights are crazy cheap to Alaska right now. Booked one for $198 from Minneapolis.

But be aware, there's nothing for places to stay (without significant expense) and nearly no car rentals available. Friend just booked a full-sized car for 2 weeks there (one of the last available) and it cost $3000. That's right, be basically paid the lease for the next 9 months on the thing, for 2 weeks of use.

People have been renting U-Hauls because there are no cars to rent and they're cheaper.

Just because the flight is cheap, doesn't mean the rest of the visit will be.

Great deal, too bad I don't have flyer miles :/ Alaska and Hawaii are the last two states on my bucket list. I figure Alaska would be a cruise or a road trip, but covid isn't making that simple.

If you have a rental car Anchorage could be better, assuming you are fine driving a ton. But to visit Denali..150-200 mile drive. To visit Portage Glacier, I think 50 miles the other way. Juneau is like.....6 minute drive from the airport to the glacier. And if you wanted to go fishing, 5 minutes to Auke Bay Harbor for a charter. Just examples.

Juneau has everything near by with great public transportation. There are ferries to other communities too (like you could take a ferry to Sitka for a day or two). Juneau has TONS of easily accessible hiking trails and tons of these are next to bus stops even.

I looked up hotels - everything looked normal price. Alaska doeesn't have "la quinta"/days inn rooms for $50 a night lol.

I have been looking for a good way to use my free rental car days.... trip for two to Fairbanks for a week - flight and car for under $100, even after buying some miles to make up the difference - can't beat that. Was looking up AirBnB and saw a few that are only $60/night for the week we are going to be there, so all of the travel should be under $500. Great deal!!!

Since Canada has banned cruise ships from docking there, everybody visiting Alaska is doing ground tours, hence the sold out rental cars. I booked my car for next month's Alaska trip last August when nobody was traveling. $524 for 16 days! I hope it's there when I get there...
