How exactly is an 8 core 16 thread 4800H a low-end processor?

https://static.techspot.com/artic.../16-p.webp
Hasn't been many 2060 with a Ryzen 7 and 16gb ram for under $1000 recently probably because they're getting discontinued(or soon to be for 3060 and 5000 CPU's). Nothing looks lacking or needing of additional updates.

The fact that you have to wait for at least a few weeks if not more would be my only hesitation.
I owned an EVOO gaming laptop for almost a year. It was fantastic, my only minor complaint was the mechanical keyboard key depth seemed a little shallow. Temps were great; build quality was great.

The article you linked was for super cheap laptops, the kit they used in my EVOO from a year or two ago was a very good Tongfeng chasis with a 9th gen Intel and a 1660TI.

I'm getting about 29.5-29.6 MH/s (core: 675 MHz; mem: 6350 MHz; power: 62 W; efficiency: 0.48 MH/j; core temp: 56 C, hotspot temp: 68 C; sitting on laptop cooler in chilly basement) with NiceHash Quick Miner for this $900 laptop (price dropped after you posted), which isn't bad. If this laptop could further drop down in price, the ROI on this laptop would be much quicker and then plus additional profit of continue mining afterwards. I'll need to find more time so I can tweak (used NHQM's OCTune) the laptop to be more efficient or perform better at cost of efficiency. So far, the laptop has been stable at many different settings (Lite, Medium, and currently Manual).
You need to do a ton more tweaking...My $600 dell with 5600m is getting 34mh...or like I said this deal is just meh (for mh)

When I used NiceHash Quick Miner optimization settings of Lite, I got 28 MH/s (~65 W). Medium was 29 MH/s (~69 W). My manual setting currently beats the medium setting efficiency due to different clocks I've applied (~62 W).

What are your numbers for GPU core/mem clocks/temps, GPU power, and efficiency if you don't mind sharing? I'm curious how AMD version performs.

This isn't much of what you are asking for...but since I can't use quick miner with AMD GPU...It's all I've got for now...

The Ryzen processor is extremely more powerful than a i5 so while you might lose a little in battery life you gain a ton in performance. So if you want a more capable CPU than yes.
Why would you lose anything on battery life at all? They both have the same TDP and Ryzen is built on a smaller 7nm die.

Mine is 2 x 8GB Micron DDR4 3200 that came as factory so its dual channel but both slots were filled.

I intend to keep and use this laptop as my replacement for my aging 2017 HP Omen 15-ax250wm (Intel i7-7700HQ/GeForce GTX 1050Ti) [hp.com] later on after its ROI (or at least close to it).

For me, it's not worth mining with the CPU that adds additional heat to the laptop, especially adding more heat to the already heat soaked GPU. What are your three temps. for CPU and GPU?
I have the same HP laptop, let me guess, Walmart clearance deal from 2017?

Yup, that's the one. I've been wanting to retire the HP Omen laptop down the road. Might as well mine with a replacement laptop to make the upgrade more affordable.

Me too trying to retire it lol

The thing is like a tank, still going strong even with very heavy use in the last 3 years.

I can't believe this deal is still going. I'm very tempted by it even though it's a little more than I want to spend on a laptop since I'm trying to save more money for my future desktop build. I kind of wish I had bought the last black friday budget gaming laptop, but a lot of people expressed a dislike of it.

I'm still reading through the comments, but I'm wondering how people like this laptop and how long they have had it.

I'm think of returning my G5 15 SE and getting this. There's a lot of CPU throttling issues on the Dell plus this has more RAM and bigger HD. Both seems to run hot but I'm not a big time gamer, so that's no really my concern. The 5600m and the RTX 2060 reviews from what I've seen are pretty much both equal. This seems like a winner overall compared to the Dell I have.

had this laptop for a day so far and I really like it. had an Asus rog strix gl503v before this which was decent except a bunch of stuff broke. I hope this one is more solid. I have zero complaints hardware wise, it has a solid screen, an SD reader, an ethernet jack, a large touchpad, 3 USB ports, 3 display ports on the back (not the sides...!) as well as the power jack on the back, and the keyboard has a full number pad (but no right side enter key).

the only problems I see so far are software, there is a war going on between the thx color profiles and the windows ones, so it seems to try to switch between them constantly, same between the thx sound filters and Dolby atmos, can't use both. the touchpad notification on the screen keeps turning off and on, the lighted keyboard software settings are inconsistent, and there's something that's making it go to the windows right side assist bar when I don't want to. that's it so far but it's all annoying. other than that great laptop, it runs all the games I want to play on high, so who cares if it doesn't have a 3060. best laptop I've had so far. recommended for the 1000 dollar price point for sure.

edit its also slightly heavier than I expected, heavier than the gl503 I had, doesn't have the same form factor appeal, it is almost bulky. that's fine. and the keyboard gets slightly hot, and the fans do spin high. so it would be best used as a mobile setup with mouse, keyboard, and monitor, not that I am doing that yet. not really a travel laptop although you could.

Are you sure? From my understanding, it has 2 Nvme m.2 slots and no 2.5" ssd. At least that's what some one stated earlier in this thread.

yes you can, it requires you buy a cable but it comes with a cage for a ssd sata style drive. It's on left side of the battery. The connection is located right next to the battery cable the tiny white slot next to the blue tabbed keyboard and touchpad cable.
