Costway is OK for some things that are temporary or designed to be used 1-2 seasons but I wouldn't buy a product from them that I had to bolt to the side of my house.
No retractable is meant for wind and especially not one that cost $125 and weighs 28lbs.
Consider a shade sail setup. They handle winds very well. You'll need some DIY skills to set it up - each setup is custom

Anyone have experience with this or other awnings? Considering one for my deck instead of another umbrella / canopy. Last year we had a Costco 13x13 pop up canopy that worked well but couldn't withstand the Ohio winds.

I have an awning not this specific one - but it just came with my house and it covers the side of my backyard. We sometime get high winds, and you definitely need to roll it back to make sure it doesnt bounce around, but overall I'm happy with it and it does give good shade.

May parents have had an awning for maybe 10+ years and I have had one for 5. Ours are different in that legs can detach from the wall and come out to make a 90 and support the awning if needed. Wind is something you have to watch for but I don't think I would now own a house without one.

Get a shade sail, eyelet hooks, and a CamJam 4pk with parachord. Set-up is pretty easy. Mine survived 50 mph winds last week. You don't have to worry about forgetting to take it down.

any ideas for shade vertically down from a sloped roof? Porch has a sloped roof and gets crazy sun in the afternoon. Mounting this vertically might work, just look fugly because it won't be level with the ground.

We recently purchased and installed a SunSetter. The SunSetter was obviously a lot more money but the finished product is pretty amazing. I purchased the optional wind sensor so it automatically retracts when the wind picks up. If it is in your price range I would go with a powered awning. If not, I am sure you will find something that works for your needs.

Any recommendations on where to pick up a decent shade sail from? Costco isn't selling ones with eyelets anymore, and everything on amazon always looks so sketch.
