The iPhone 12 Mini comes unlocked out of the box. If you want to purchase the phone and pop in another SIM, click through the "Get new number" process; just don't activate the SIM and you won't get charged for the plan.

As long as you don't activate the SIM, it sounds like you won't be charged. You'll only pay the price of the phone which comes unlocked out of the box. HTH!

Tempted to jump on this. I have a 6S that is on its last leg. Wouldn't mind waiting a bit more for the new one in the fall, but with this discount a trade in may be enticing.

Just pay the 504 plus tax. You can purchase the phone without a port in. It tells you "or get a new number" on the bottom of the screen where you enter your port in info. Just select that and your good to go. It'll have you enter payment info for first month billing and then give you the option to use that same info for the phone itself. Once the phone ships you get charged for the phone but so long as you don't activate the SIM card you never get charged for the service.
