sounds like they're generalizing? the few bad hdr jobs I've seen are jurrassic park 1, step brothers, and the web version of heat. can't think of anything else off the top of my head.
Heat had no HDR that was noticeable
it was hdr lite lol. hopefully our copies get updated to the new transfer when it comes out

You need to watch more movies then -- this isn't that bad.
Now if you dislike it, that's of course your opinion and I won't argue the point.
But in a more general sense, it's 'okay', for what it is. I won't say it's even that good a movie, but it's an okay B-film.
As a Lovecraft adaptation, it's actually one of the better ones -- and your description of it as "a diseased dream someone would see when feverish or on drugs" is actually pretty accurate. Just that for those of us who have seen a zillion films, or those who don't mind more niche or weird cinema, that's not really a negative.

I enjoyed it. It wasn't bad but it wasn't super-great either.... but it is another 4K disc to add to my 4K collection.
