In Sept fcc ruled that cable companies no longer have to support or provide cable cards. Most companies will let you use it for sometime but good luck replacing it

I love my Silicondust Prime 3....
I think they will replace the cablecard if I threaten to go to Netflix... Cable companies are actually dying, not the card itself.

It was like pulling teeth to get a cable card at spectrum. And that's when they were required to support them. From talking to support... they will hand out replacement parts as long as they have them, but they haven't ordered anything new in years

Optimum and FIOS were very good about supporting cablecard.
My question is, what is the likelihood a card fails?
Tis true. Tivo and anything else that requires CableCard will likely be unsupported by 2022. I just had to get a CC replacement from Xfinity, and that was a chore as you have to call in and order it. The service centers no longer carry/stock them locally. Thanks FCC.
The writing is on the wall for Tivo and anyone else unfortunately...
I have been using Tivo since 2003, and I have still been running two Tivo HD's with lifetime service since 2008. I have upgraded/replaced the hard drives multiple times, replaced the fans, and fixed/replaced the power supply capacitors. I had always wanted to upgrade to the newer models but never found good enough deals. In the meantime, we have been using less and less Tivo's to the point that we only watch a few shows a week on them. We use Roku and Fire TV a lot more. Now, I no longer have the desire to upgrade them. I will just keep fixing them until we stop using them.

Compare that to $350 for a Bolt (refurb) with lifetime = $350.

Bolt is one generation behind the Edge, but $450 for that?
