You and me both. Quicken is certainly not perfect but it seems every alternative is significantly worse.

Thanks that helps.

The tax planner has never worked properly. I do run some of those reports but don't rely on them or use for transferring into my tax software. I use the reports mainly as a way to determine if I need to adjust my tax withholdings due to investment transactions during the year. they are nice to have though.

My subscription expires on May 25th. I think I'm going to pick up the deluxe with the sale and 15% cash back and give it a try for a year.
You can purchase and renew your subscription 3 months after it expires--or as long as your banks allow you to download from them. I did this last year and it turns a 12 month subscription into a 15 month--as long as you don't need it monthly. When I did the download from all my banks--the 3 months of missing transactions were downloaded.

It depends on how much you depend on Quicken for monthly information. I like the year end totals for tax purposes and don't use it for investments. It's also super easy to find purchases so you can find the receipt for warranty, returns etc if you put memo's in it for the item.

Thanks 0 had been contemplating this software for some time. This price plus 15% at the CB site was good enough to pull the trigger.

Old person here. Anybody remember Managing Your Money using DOS?

Yep sure do and it had some advantages over this new software. Easier to add transactions to an existing account/file. You could import transactions from another account with ease.

If you do get started with Quicken, feel free to ping me if questions on setup.

One thing I find useful is to create the accounts by including financial instiutions name with the last 4 digits of the account number. It makes it easier to read the transactions if one have to go back and reconcile. One can look at the receipt and see which account it originated from. This is very useful if one have a lot of credit cards with one institution.

I do this with all my credit cards, bank accounts and brokerage accounts.

Also, Quicken remembers your previous coding for certain transaction patterns and will try to code future transactions the same way. So on recurring transactions, try to make sure initial transactions are coded correctly.
I have had Quicken Home and Business for many years.

Will Quicken Deluxe allow you to have more then 1 file. I think it will. Quicken told me if I downgraded I'd lose a file and that might be true if you downgrade--but you should be able to back up your other files and create files in the Deluxe model and then restore that file so it would bring my other files from Home and Business into the NEW Deluxe (downgrade)????

I've used Quicken for over 30 years and was currently using the 2017 version. The last straw was when I needed to switch back from Quicken Windows to Quicken 2017, and the Mac version would NOT let me import the file without an active subscription. I was fine manually entering my transactions. If you are just using this for household use, check out Moneydance. https://infinitekind.com . I save the file to OneDrive and I can share the SAME file using the Windows or Mac version of the software. This was something I could NOT do with the Quicken 2017 Windows and Mac version. It's a one-time purchase for $49. It imported the Windows QIF file fine (as far as I can tell). I am using the SAME converted file with either my Mac or Windows laptop. There is a free trial. No credit card required. The limit of 100 transactions applies only after you import the initial file (I had over 30 years of transactions).

I can also import the transactions from my bank manually. Although it does have the ability to auto download transactions, your bank may not be one of the ones compatible.

Have you guys allowed the subscription to expire and see what they do you with banners?
Big uproar over it on their forums. The company is unwilling to remove them Smilie

Mine expired in March and has a yellow banner telling me it expired with a renew button.
on the side of one of the account ledgers is information about what it can't do or something like that.

I might renew in another month or so--but going to wait for the 3 month and then download the past 3 months at one time and then I'm current again.

Seriously looking at the other software that some mentioned.

Who will need this software if the Federal Income Tax is No longer legal and an issue??
That is a possibility and those that are paying attention and are awake are aware of it.
Plenty of places talking about it.

You probably need to get the Money "Sunset Edition" available for free from Microsoft.

We still use Microsoft Money on all our Windows 10 computers and have no problems. (The only caveat is that most banks only let you download the Quicken "QFX" format, and you need to convert to the Money "OFX" specification - easy conversion).
Money Sunset chokes on Win10 on ARM. That or my database is too big, I have transactions going back to 2002 on it!

For what it's worth: I currently use Quicken 2013. It's still running fine, with no annual subscription fees. I believe Quicken 2017 was the last non-subscription package, and CDs of those older Quicken versions are still occasionally available on eBay. [/QUOTE]

But you can't use any of the 'online' features like downloading transactions from you bank, right?

As far as I can tell, one can open different files. I have not use this feature. But there is file open function similar to one opening an Excel workbook.

Maybe someone who use this feature can opine on this.

Have you looked into the Money in Excel template that's included with Office 365?
I had never heard of that - it's awesome, BUT - I don't have Office 365 personal, I have a lic through my office. It requires you have your own lic to use it. So that is actually $99 a year, but not just for money, obviously you get office and such. But since I already have that - it's $99 to use Money alone.

But it looks perfect for me! This is exactly what I want, a simple way to download my transactions monthly, so thanks for pointing it out. I'll consider it.

Thank you for this suggestion. I've never tried Mondaydance, and it looks like a viable alternative.

The help section has been very useful. Although using a shared drive is not recommended, I had no issues with Quicken but used it with one computer only. One issue I had with Moneydance was trying to move my file to a shared drive. To reduce the chance of errors, I do keep the main Moneydance ALWAYS on my drive and it syncs to the cloud as well. I also make sure to keep a backup using another cloud service. With Mac, this is important because I don't know of a way to remove and get data from the SSD that wouldn't be very costly. It's not like a Windows pc that goes dead, but I could remove the hard drive and recover files for free with another machine. Here is the help section I found on that. https://infinitekind.tenderapp.co...ving-files . I do use a Mac and Windows, so being able to switch back and forth is a plus.

I wish I would have found this years ago. Good luck and hope it works well for your needs too.
