I would doubt they manufacture it any more, but this phone is only 3 years old, not 4-5. Came out March 2018.

As others have said, may have greater value as a trade-in deal for other phones later on.
I was pretty sure that although the S9 is getting pretty old it would still be faster than the A72. I was pretty surprised when I looked more into it and saw this video.

To recap it seems that the A72 eeks out slightly quicker with games, but the S9 is quicker with apps. I assume this is due to memory size and type...

That being said the A72 is a lot more than $199. I did no research into it, but I assume camera quality is also similar. So if you dont mind a smaller screen I would definitely say choose the S9 over the A72 just for the price difference.
buy it and trade it in later

Anyone dealt with the seller before, and do you think I can use my T-Mobile account to unlock it? Will they allow it?

My understanding is that any t-mobile locked phone will work with metro sim and any other t-mobile mvno sim like mint.

Too old model now. Buy S21 or A72 or A52, depending on your budget.

I wonder is Samsung and Apple actually still produces these 4-5 year models, or they were found in some warehouse.

Likely refurbs or fell out of the back of a truck with no factory warranty from the ad:
