I have two SN550s (a 1TB and a 500GB) and I've been really happy with them. While I am generally a performance enthusiast, my storage needs are fairly typical and I generally stick to mainstream offerings.

Tom's Hardware has this on their current list of best SSDs. Single-sided too, in case you have a laptop that won't accept a double-sided design.

Double sided means that there are chips on both sides of the printed circuit board, while single sided means that all the chips are one side of the board. Single sided boards are thinner. Some laptops don't have enough space for a double sided board.

"Much Faster" not always. The SN550 uses 96L NAND which is a generation newer than the 64L NAND used in the SN750. While the Blue is a tier lower, this technology advantage brings it's own benefits.

This was MSRP for this drive when it released about a year ago. Looks like everyone else has it for $110. Guess the price went up with the shortage.

And when the SN750 is faster, it's often not by very much. I would not pay the additional premium for that drive.

This drive excels at small file r/w and sequential reads, making it excellent for OS disks, small file workloads (code compilation), and gaming.

Not the best for large file workloads or copying, like movie editing/transferral.

For OS, gaming and small files, hard to beat for the price.

This is not a bad deal, but if you can use student discount on WD website, you can get it a few bucks cheaper. I build PCs for people, and this is the my go to boot drive for general people. I even have one in my enthusiast build as a 2nd drive. I have also purchased about 10 of them this year already. I have never paid over $100 AFTER TAX for this 1TB drive. So if you know someone with a student email, get a hold of them and use that.

Have this drive in the computer I bought from Microcenter (1TB). Sure it's not as fast as the new WD Black but its fast enough for most people at half the price. Maybe I'll upgrade to a WD Black in a couple years when I need more storage.
