I'd get a $50 Amazon Fire tablet, like the simple 8" one. No need to spend even $150+ on something that's just going to make sounds, flash lights, and play a youtube video or two.
Either would be fine for that use-case. I'd honestly just go for whichever is cheaper. From a performance perspective I think the P11 will do a little better since it's using a slightly better Snapdragon processor rather than the MediaTek. Also, this is native Android vs an Andoid container on the Duet.
Gave up on the amazon brand. Their software is not maintained. And I know you said it wasna child, but yes it makes a huge difference. After years of farting around with fire tablets we got a proper Android based tablet. The android child account management is great and is being properly maintained.

is this a better purchase compared to Duet @ $180? I only need it for android games for my toddler. No other use, i spent a few hours on Duet with a play store and it looked okay although didn't install any games. Its purely to entertain a toddler during long drives. anyone has any feedback?

i dont care if i will be stuck at Android 10 i dont even know what Android 11 has to offer.

Is this any better than the Samsung A7? It's available at costco for $190 and comes with an extra 64GB microSD.

https://www.costco.com/samsung-ga...88384.html

They both appear to use the same Snapdragon. I have the A7 and it is adequate for my 7 year old.

This is far better than the Duet for those uses. The Duet is far better for those wanting to surf the web with multiple tabs and have apps open as well.

This will work better for a child or for those who want to use it for games. More will run on it and they will run better.

Personally I wish they made a Duet copy of this. The SSD is much faster and the processor is a bit better. They have a pro version which is better as well and up to 6GB of RAM would be nice.

Edit: This review is more tailored for what you plan to use it for:

I am typing this on my Duet with an external monitor. My primary PC for now.

This might tell you what you need to know. Though he is evaluating it as a work tablet not for a child or gamer. Note this is the Pro version. Not that much different. Just a larger screen and better resolution.

This is more child friendly. Software tailored for children in it. However more likely to get updates on the Samsung of course. You may on this but that is questionable. They are being pressured to do so but for now they do not update much at all.

Would something like this be good for running PleX? We're looking for something to use with the new treadmill.

Pretty much anything can run plex. If you want to save some money, Amazon's Fire HD 10 when on sale can be had for $80-100. This tablet would be fine too though (better/larger screen, running stock android).

Keep in mind the only Fire tablet you can consider the the 2019 Fire HD10 and with Amazon tool box (software used with a PC), you can make this function close to stock android... even more stock then Samsung.

But I agree, having a real Android OS with the Fire OS ontop of it is better. And parent controls are not the best with the Fire tablets unless you get a child version (which I hate).

At the same time, for this price point I would probably want the "iplay 40" even though it does not do Netflix and Disney in HD.
