I see LG WM3900HBA | DLEX3900B electric washer and dryer combo on sale black color for 1499.99 plus taxes. It includes Free Delivery, Basic Installation and Haul Away Included in Most Areas* and worry free costco return policy.

Though its a discontinued model currently sold by costco, its pretty much same as 4000 model that's replaced 3900's.

Your laundry area will dictate which type of dryer you should use. If you have a gas hook-up, go with that. Electric needs 220V. Running either a new 220V or a gas line is expensive so go with whichever is in place.

You should get solar. You're break even point would be FAST. The more expensive your elec bill, the faster it takes to break even on the solar investment. Homes that have solar are worth more too.

The biggest problem with front load is the boot seal gets very moldy very quickly no matter how often you clean it. That is prob where the smell comes from. My next washer will be too load for sure to avoid this issue.

Based on two sets of font loading washing machines, both new purchases, for the two different houses, YES. That's the draw back /w front loaders: there is always residual water in the drum. BEST TO ALWAYS KEEP THE WASHER DOOR OPEN, to MINIMIZE SMELL AND MOLD. All of the front loaders recommend running an empty load w/ some bleach only to help w/ the smell and mold. Some of the better front loads have a "timer" to remind you to run the "self-clean/sanitize" cycle, to help combat the smell/mold.

I had maybe this size before and had to do more loads. Sold them to a friend and bought super capacity size. Really cut down my laundry time. Get extended warranties. Both of my new washer and dry and to be repaired out of the box. Been working great now for years.

With supply drying up if you need them get them now while still in stock.

If you do get the gas dryer from this Costco deal, please make sure it was correctly hooked up to your gas line. Costco may be great but the delivery/basic installation/haul away contractor are just in a tearing hurry to get in and get out.

In my case they forgot to apply "pipe compound" to the gas line and which was explicitly stated in the LG gas dryer installation guide.

If you get the sidekick pedestal washer, you will need THREE receptacles (main washer, pedestal and gas dryer) available. We did not at the time of the costco install, so we used an extension cord to test out the install which was fine. A day later I had my general contractor came out to do put in a receptacle (replace the rusted hot/cold water hook up behind the washer/dryer), he suggested replacing all the water lines with steel braided lines and when he was reconnecting the gas inlet he noticed that the Costco installer did not use pipe compound during the install.
