The Docsis 3.0 vs 3.1 only plays a role between the modem and the ISP's servers, it will dictate how fast the connection can be in that segment.
Between the modem and the router, the ethernet protocol will dictate the speed, it will depend on the best speed both the modem and router can handle and successfully negotiate when you first plug in the cable.
between the router and your wifi device, the wifi connection is what dictates the speed, again both items need to have the latest technology, in this case wifi 6, to take advantage of it successfully, otherwise they negotiate the best alternative that they both support.

When you're trying to use your connection to get to the internet, let's say to download a big file, you will need all pieces to work properly and at their best speeds, if any segment from the ones described above is weak, it will be the limiting factor of how fast you can download that file.

For example, if you only subscribe/pay for a 200 mbps connection with your ISP, having a modem that can handle 5gbps or a wifi 6 router that can hand 1200mbps is not going to help you much, your speed to download that file will always be limited to 200 mbps.

There are many other scenarios where you could still use wifi 6 in-house even if your ISP connection is slow. I still think this gizmo @ $50 is a good deal, and might get it myself.

Bought it and I like it - no issues so far. I'm not sure if this is how this is supposed to work, but when I do the speedtest through Spectrum's website, it says max download of 125 Mbps, yet when I do it through the Netgear app, it says 250 Mbps.

Either way, having wifi 6 is a definite upgrade over the router I got from Spectrum.

Netgear speed is from the modem. Anything else is the speed from the router to the device, which is where a bunch a variable take place. Wi-Fi, interference, what's using the internet, the device receiving

I just purchased a Netgear nighthawk R7000P and it drops connection constantly. I have 1000 Mbps fiber internet and my old Tmo Asus AC1900 was working just fine. I have be reading reviews and it seems like all the new routers have connection issues. Anyone have any recommendations that doesn't require flashing a router?

Not sure it matters, but if you are going to upgrade to wifi 6 on your laptop or desktop by buying an m2 wifi card, the AX210 with wifi 6e isn't a whole lot more than the AX200 wifi 6 card. It's like $35 on Amazon versus $21.

The ASRock motherboard I bought new came with a wifi 5 ac card that I was going to replace anyway. I felt it made more sense to buy the AX210 and not have to change it again.

This is an extremely well rated middle of the line router for people who are more budget oriented but not necessarily wanting a entry level router.

That is hard to answer without a lot of troubleshooting, if is just recently happening and its only on the same few devices, it could be that a neighbor bought a new router and is interfering with your wifi. If its been like this since day one, could be a setting issue with smart connect enabled. Yes there is still a chance that the router is just going bad, without a lot more troubleshooting hard to be sure, as for 30 devices most of these routers should be able to handle that device count so that probably is not it. This seems like a good deal on a wifi 6 router, but I honestly have never used it and I have not seen any reviews to state it, so hard to recommend it. Can always take a shot and see what happens.
Yea its always the same devices, and it just started doing it the past few weeks and its getting real annoying. It could possibly be because of my neighbor interfering with my signals. I dont have smart connect on so its not that for sure. another weird thing is, for example my roku would only lose connection when I check my connection thru the settings, otherwise it works. I bought this router in hopes itll fix it.

Good luck hope it does the trick for you, but it does sound like if its the same devices its interference related so this should even with just two antennas be able to provide stronger connections.

I've seen very similar issues with several new routers I have tried. I also have the old-reliable t-mobile AC1900 flashed with dd-wrt and it has always been vastly more reliable than anything new I tried. The one quick solution to try is to map your local network using something like NetSpot. Using this or other app, map and see which channels you have that are free, for example if you see a lot of 111, 125, 101 channels used up; pick something well separated from them, like 117 and make sure no other network is using that one. This setting is available on your router admin page.

This router really looks bare bones I would probably spend the extra money and just get the TP-Link AX21 version for even better coverage since it has more powerful antenna technology.
What is the difference if any between the TP-Link Archer AX20 vs Archer AX21?

Identical in all hardware aspects except the AX21 is the improved cooling design, since the AX20 had problems running hot especially if people enclosed them in closets and tight spaces with no airflow.

Took the plunge last week and upgraded.

I upgraded from a TM-AC1900 (RT-AC68U). Still a great router but I bought it in 2016. It is by far the best router I have ever owned, especially for its bang for the buck.

This Netgear one is slightly better, but I did so because I have 4 devices that support AX. I have reached 700mbps+ on my phone running AX, which is absolutely amazing considering the router is only a 2x2. Never reached that on my old router. Range is about the same though. My TM-AC1900 was unable to keep up with my fiber connection, maxing out at 450-500.

Also has beamforming and MU-MIMO if thats your thing.

This router would be good if you have a 1gbps fiber connection and an AX device. If not, then your current AC device is fine still.

FYI, Intel AX200 cards are getting much cheaper
Thanks for the info. I am going to hold off on switching from RT-AC68R since there doesn't
seem to be much benefit.

Got mine few days ago. Got so much problems installing it and keep dropping connections so often. I am going back to my old hacked Tmobile AC router.
