Holy musical chairs... I mean threads, Batman, on these Canon printer threads. They keep popping up and dying and there's no discussion about the differences in these models (besides my failed attempts).

I was surprised how little info is available on the MF242DW model if you search. There are no reviews or comparisons against the MF232DW. You're pretty much stuck with the info at Canon or Walmart. From what I can tell, the MF242DW is identical to the MF232DW except it has a tilt panel and supposedly you can reduce multiple pages onto 1 page, so it actually seems slightly better. Of course getting anyone to confirm that after 2 prior threads is about as easy as getting the Fed to control itself on the money supply.

The MF242DW is NOT listed as a supported model for this toner on any eBay listing or on Amazon, so is this a "secret" model for Walmart only?

Let me go full Cunningham's Law here to see if that gets a response:

The MF242DW won't take the same generic toner cartridges that the MF232DW and MF232W do because it's not listed as a supported model. You have to buy a genuine MF242DW Canon toner cartridge from Canon at full price for this model specifically.

Let's see if Mr. Cunningham is right once again about the only way to get an answer.

I recently bought the MF232w for the same price. This seems a better deal since it can duplex print. Uses the same 137 cartridge, too.

That appears to be true. The MF242DW has been available at $99 online for a little while, so it puzzled me why the MF242DW wasn't highlighted until later

Thanks and repped for the info I wanted. When I searched on Canon MF242DW (I just did it again to confirm) I did not see any articles like the one you found on webwire, so congrats on finding it. Had I found it, then I wouldn't have needed to post the questions. The article was written 5/18, but I know the MF242DW has been around a little longer because I saw them at stores last week too.

So at least that explains why the MF242DW doesn't show up in any toner descriptions, nor at any other dealers, nor are there any 3rd party reviews/comparison pages. This also should mean it's not on clearance and should "stick around" for this price: "Canon U.S.A.'s new imageCLASS MF242dw multifunction printer is now available exclusively at most Walmart stores and via Walmart.com at an everyday low price of $99."

The puzzling thing is why were the MF232DW and MF232W both around $200 normally and only $99 while being clearanced out, but the MF242DW will be $99 normally. You'd think with the ubiquitous chip shortage I hear about daily that electronics like this would be scarce. Maybe these printers only need a few chips inside. If the price won't change, my prediction is this will go in and OOS frequently (within hours) and it'll be a game with people expiring/posting new threads as it comes and goes.

I guess the 3rd time's the charm (3rd thread and 3rd post) to get an answer... or maybe Cunningham's Law works. Obviously I knew the part I said in bold above was not true because the MF242DW specs say it takes the CRG137 toner. I wonder if eBay/Amazon auctions will get updated to list it. It seemed weird to me that I had to dig into the 232/242 user's guide and search on "242" to find out how it's different.

Does this scan only through the top panel one page at a time or is it able to scan multiples pages using feed through?

Are you saying there are no alternative toners you can buy because it's so new?

No, it takes the same toner cartridge as the previous $99 models discussed in numerous expired threads. I'm saying the description of these toners do not list the MF242(DW) as a supported model yet, and I was wondering if they'll update it.

If it's already OOS for shipping (pickup only), that confirms Walmart will get these in small batches and will come and go for free shipping.

Which one would you recommend in Brother. I want duplex print, scan feeder, all in one, wireless, cheap toner.
