The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

Not for zero turn. At least compare apples to apples.

Hey, thanks so much for that info.

FYI, the lawn/garden guy at my local Home Depot told me recently (about 3 weeks ago) that HD had already made the corporate decision late last year, to completely drop the EGO brand entirely from all of their stores, as well as hd.com.

He said if I actually see any EGO stuff for sale in a Home Depot store, it'll likely be 'old' 2020 year (or even older) stock & that it also 'should' have a variable clearance price on it (mileage always varies on clearance as we all on know).

So... can anyone confirm perhaps that what that guy told me is right (or partially right). I was thinking that even if they stopped selling the equipment, they still sell the batteries, at least for a year or two, IMHO.

Anyway, he's been a pretty reliable information source for years in regard to HD (he's been at my local HD for 7+ years), but I was hoping some of you folks out there could at least weigh in on the 'no more EGO at Home Depot' concept.

And I can also confirm that I no longer see any EGO equipment on sale at 3 of my local Home Depot stores, so... sadly, he might be right. : (

Also, he also thinks EGO may now be a 'Lowes exclusive brand'. But that, I kinda doubt. However, he again, could be 100% accurate again.

Thx for any & all info. from my fellow 'yard maintainers' out there.
Home Depot lost EGO, Lowes picked them up. That's accurate. Ace Hardware also carries EGO.

A cheap riding mower starts at $1,500. This is a a zero turn, starts at at least 2,500. And those have maintenance too. The min is battery ($45), belt ($50), spark plugs, oil, filter, gas (listing because electric is cheaper to run). How much it costs depends on your use and area and if you service yourself. I have rough country acres and have a local shop do work on it. It costs me $200-300 a year in big maintenance except this year was $600 (so far).

In 7 years I've had 2 spindles replaced, numerous belts, 2 batteries, and I can't even figure how much in fuel. As a low estimate in 7 years I've spent at least $2500 in repairs, a majority of that would be covered by no gas. So I do see the appeal in an all electric. I would never get a stamped deck though unless you live in a perfect subdivision lot.

I have the 75ah version and after 1 yr I can't even get 1 hour out of it on side discharge (not mulching because I can't afford to waste the battety)

Contacted ryobi and they sent me a new gauge which did nothing.

They want me to haul it to a Ryobi repair spot. Closest of which is 40 mins. I have to rent a truck. Take it in. Wait for them to inspect. Rent another truck to pick up. Hope it's repaired.

I contacted the repair shop and there was a 6 week wait. I have not heard back 8 weeks later. At this point I'm outside of the 1 yr warranty on battery, so I may end up paying $200 on truck rentals hauling back and forth only for them to deny a repair.

I'm very unhappy.

Other than battery not issues, everything else is great. Cuts well. Fast. Easy access to blades. Annoying to keep charged 24/7 (have to store in garage) but that's okay

I bought a used 2018 scag v ride 2 for this price. This has a thin stamped deck, tiny rear tires, no serviceable grease points, and old technology batteries. Store this outside in the cold and let the batteries go flat and you're out 1000 dollars.

Fabricated deck, lithium ion batteries, grease points, one larger motor running pullies, and a stand on version would be great.

I'll start by saying I'm almost all in on battery electric for non typical items. I have a battery electric push mower for hard to get to areas, battery weed wacker and they are both fantastic. My daily driver is also Model 3, but when doing research on Zero turn lawn mowers I stuck with gas. The Ego seems to be the best reviewed, but never goes on sale and is almost always out of stock. $5k is a lot, especially when comparing what you get with its gas counterparts.

Last week I pulled the trigger on the Toro Timecutter 50in with MyRide and couldn't be happier with it for $3599. Also highest ranked by Consumer Reports.
Where'd you buy your Toro if you don't mind me asking?

Lead acid batteries begin to degrade (actually build sulfur deposits on the plates) immediately when the voltage drops under 12V. If stored under 12v for a week or two like just parking the mower without plugging it in after mowing), the batteries capacity will become less, then when people don't know this, they continuously do it, and batteries last those people a year or two. If you keep them topped up after a mow, and once every few weeks just top them off, or keep a trickle charger on them (not sure if RYOBI has this standard) then they will easily last 5+ years. That being said I bought an ENCORE zero turn which has been fantastic, but had this been out when I bought the ENCORE, I would have went RYOBI. Now if you want to strictly go by cost, the gas and oil changes should be close to the same cost of the electric. If you get an electric mower for the cost savings, you are doing it wrong. It is way quieter, the fuel is electrons which are available in 99%+ of American households, and the maintenance is limited to tires, greasing a few spots, and sharpening the blades. The maintenance on a gas is the same, PLUS air filter, oil changes, belts, holy sh*t if the hydrostatic drives have a problem and the hundreds of moving parts in and around the engine.
Exactly why I don't understand people complaining about battery replacement. Excluding abuse and misuse, a electric tool/vehicle will last far, far longer than gas (of similar quality) with minimal maintenance.

Literally the only disadvantage an electric motor has vs a gas is energy capacity. With the advancement of batteries lately that gap is closing. Torque, rpm, longevity, etc of electric have always blown away gas motors.

Tell that to mowers using same engine for over 20 years LMAO

Good luck getting battery to last over 10 years.

Even with zero catastrophic failures that require major repair, cumulative value of the oil, belt, plug, etc changes over those 20 years is going to be a lot more than the battery.

says ryobi battery last 5 years thats 4 batteries in 20 years if they even make them anymore.

How much is replacement battery i can't even find it online they sell them? that's first red flag.

A good long lasting battery would be AGM but in terms of energy density it would be LiPo4. Lithium phosphate. Those are the batteries that are being use in today solar power storage which can withstand temperature change and tens of thousands of charging and discharging. I don't know for sure if there is a LiPo4 version battery that is compatible with the mower but in term of AGM, there should be compatible version.

The Lawnmower repair man that sharpened my mower blades a couple weeks ago. Suggested if buying a new riding mower to get a Toro or John Deere. I have a Gilson 42" riding mower that I am using now, it is over 25 years old and still going strong, Briggs and Stratton commercial engine laugh out loud

Tip on your battery if it wont take a charge anymore. Add distilled water to the battery cells and charge the battery again. I am on the 3rd year for my battery, they usually need to be replaced every season, if you don't know this trick.

If you're buying a lead acid battery mower such as this, please look into a pulse power.
