The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

says ryobi battery last 5 years thats 4 batteries in 20 years if they even make them anymore.

How much is replacement battery i can't even find it online they sell them? that's first red flag.
As mentioned by others, for this item it uses common golf cart batteries. Easily found for a couple hundred without need to find a specific proprietary.

Interesting. I bet it depends on where you live and state regs. I've just started seeing the robot electric mowers in the last year. Other than that I haven't noticed any electric mowers here. It was a shock to see there are several online from different brands. Didn't even know it existed until researching last week, except for the cord mowers that have been around forever.

I'm in the market for a ride on BUT seems like mixed reviews and almost like the technology isn't quite there yet.

If I pull the trigger it'll probably be a gas job.

Oh well... 😒

Home Depot lost EGO, Lowes picked them up. That's accurate. Ace Hardware also carries EGO.
Thanks for confirming that. Repped you.

I've had this 100ah mower for 2 years now. Still going strong. Zero maintenance on a zero turn mower.

Exactly why I don't understand people complaining about battery replacement. Excluding abuse and misuse, a electric tool/vehicle will last far, far longer than gas (of similar quality) with minimal maintenance.

Literally the only disadvantage an electric motor has vs a gas is energy capacity. With the advancement of batteries lately that gap is closing. Torque, rpm, longevity, etc of electric have always blown away gas motors.
These companies need to use a battery management system that prevents user error. If this mower runs on lead acid, allows the user to run it well below 50%, and has a parasitic drain, 99% of buyers will end up unhappy when they kill the capacity in a year.

I've got the 30in version that I purchased last year for $1200 on closeout. Prior to getting the Ryobi I had a 42in gas Ariens for about 10 years. The Ariens is a beast and in fact I gave it to a neighbor who still uses it. Having said that the Ryobi is the way to go in my opinion. The thing I enjoy the most is no more frequent trips to the convenience store to fill up he 5 gallon gas can. Plus the Ryobi is much quieter. Even with the smaller cut width I can mow my lawn in less time than with the Ariens.

A cheap riding mower starts at $1,500. This is a a zero turn, starts at at least 2,500. And those have maintenance too. The min is battery ($45), belt ($50), spark plugs, oil, filter, gas (listing because electric is cheaper to run). How much it costs depends on your use and area and if you service yourself. I have rough country acres and have a local shop do work on it. It costs me $200-300 a year in big maintenance except this year was $600 (so far).

In 7 years I've had 2 spindles replaced, numerous belts, 2 batteries, and I can't even figure how much in fuel. As a low estimate in 7 years I've spent at least $2500 in repairs, a majority of that would be covered by no gas. So I do see the appeal in an all electric. I would never get a stamped deck though unless you live in a perfect subdivision lot.
Your maintenance cost is quite exaggerated. This sounds like a car dealer suggesting you change the oil and filter on your car every 3000 miles because that's how they make money, and a manufacturer will suggest every 8000-10000 miles for such maintenance.

Edit: I'll even expand on this, I have roughly $65 a year in maintenance costs in a John Deere x304 riding mower(read: not cheap). Most of that averaged cost? Electronic components like the seat sensor failing every 5 years because electronic shit can't simply be fixed, it has to be replaced.

WARNING This cannot handle large yards at all
  1. Blade size is small (mine is 50" in comparison)
  2. Not good for around lakes as it lacks large back wheels and wide front wheels
  3. Absolutely cannot handle if your back lawn takes 2hrs on a current zero turn. You'll basically need to charge at least 4 times just to get the task done, likely more.
  4. Only 2 blades.. a reminder of how small this thing is
For those of you on nice estates, again I urge you to stick with gas for now unfortunately. Hopefully in the future they will cater to us but for now they only do it for people with small lawns to deal with.

Edit: This is America these days. If you are successful in life and can afford or inherit an estate but you enjoy doing things yourself and taking care of the property yourself, you are still mocked and ridiculed (see next page of comments). Every time someone comes here for the first time, they always compliment the view, the property even if its just Amazon delivery.. my hard work, not someone I hired. I'm proud to not have a mortgage and live on such a place while still being young. I just wish those that don't would be happy for those that do instead of jealousy and envy, it's unattractive.

Stay away from leak acidic batteries, I had my Ryobi for 2 years and always been plugged in and storaged in garage and my yard is only 1/3 acre. Always have more than 60% left and batteries blows now, i have to recharge it to finish my yard. So batteries is an issue onlyblast 2-3 yrs. Sold it and bought EGO z6. I hope it lasted better than Ryobi since its using lithium ion batteries + I can use batteries on all of my yard EGO tools.

Completely agree. If I saw my gardener using this toy I'd tell my butler to fire him for bringing shame to my nice estate. And then I'd fire the butler for making me deal with it at all.

That said, I did pick up 10 of these for the annual Christmas toy giveaway in the city. Never too early to train the next generation for the jobs of tomorrow. Hopefully by then electric mowers will be a better fit for my very classy estate.
