The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

Completely agree. If I saw my gardener using this toy I'd tell my butler to fire him for bringing shame to my nice estate. And then I'd fire the butler for making me deal with it at all.

That said, I did pick up 10 of these for the annual Christmas toy giveaway in the city. Never too early to train the next generation for the jobs of tomorrow. Hopefully by then electric mowers will be a better fit for my very classy estate.
Ha...ha

It's refered to as a estate when you live on an acre on a lake. Mock me all you like. I was just trying to warn people. I know some people outside of Florida that arent wealthy can still afford large plots of land that're looking to move away from gas. I hate gas personally.

says ryobi battery last 5 years thats 4 batteries in 20 years if they even make them anymore.

How much is replacement battery i can't even find it online they sell them? that's first red flag.

or you might get away with suitable substitute common Group 31 marine battery, which is .30 inch wider.

We actually have this exact configuration of Ryobi zero-turn mower and have a house on 70 acres, 20,000 sqft of installed lawn and grass along a 1/2 mile driveway. The Ryobi ZT handles the 20k sqft lawn and driveway without needing to be recharged. We occasionally use it to mow the paths through the acreage.

It mows beautifully and has exceeded all of our expectations and then some (we use it to haul a trailer, etc). I highly recommend this product.

A cheap gas riding mower is $1000. This costs $1000 every five years in maintenance for batteries alone.

That's pretty much the math I was doing in my head.

I have a Husqvarna Riding mower with a 46" desk; I paid $900 for it from a grandmother who hadn't even put 100hrs on it and it works nicely to do my 1ac yard. I've had it for 10yrs now.

Your maintenance cost is quite exaggerated. This sounds like a car dealer suggesting you change the oil and filter on your car every 3000 miles because that's how they make money, and a manufacturer will suggest every 8000-10000 miles for such maintenance.
Someone else's experience can be different than yours. As I said I pay someone to do it which does double the cost due to labor. I have them service it once a year. I've put over 800 hours on it so over 100 hours a year. We have rocks constantly working up so some of that is blades. No sensor issues but did have a crack in the gas can this time so water in the tank. I wouldn't want to try and change the spindle or some of the major work but do plan on learning the yearly maintenance if I have time. It's a regular mower that has taken a beating but I've learned it's time to upgrade to a heavy duty one.

As a side note my car manual says to change the oil every 10k miles unless you drive on dirt/dusty roads, then it's 5k. As for the 3k, that's apparently left over from cars back in the day over 50 years ago that did need frequent changes. Most today are 5k or 10k. The owner's manual is what I would trust.

I use electric everything, but I don't think riding mowers are there yet. I just pulled the trigger on a gasoline cub cadet with a 50" deck for $2200, which will cost less over its lifetime than an electric with lead acid batteries. Also the zero turn style can't tow anything...I think someone with a small yard yard could benefit from this from a convenience standpoint, but not really cost.

Edit: I'll even expand on this, I have roughly $65 a year in maintenance costs in a John Deere x304 riding mower(read: not cheap). Most of that averaged cost? Electronic components like the seat sensor failing every 5 years because electronic shit can't simply be fixed, it has to be replaced.
Ditto.

I have had slickdeals as my home page for 10 years. last 3 years things have gotten considderably more questionable. THIS which I have been looking for a deal on pops up as FIRE BUY? With this price.

This site is turning into facebook. Its no longer about good deals its a marketing POS.

10 years as my home page and I can no longer trust the deals here. This isnt a deal. Best price on this in the past was 1k lower. Now 8% off and it pops up as a FIRE DEAL.

I wonder how many others who lived by this site are done or about as done with it as I am. I think most of the comments here are BS placed for sales.

Yeah I can mow 20 acres with this......WTF. Real people are no longer even a part of the conversation here.

I was eyeing the 54" version of this. The battery life has me wondering though. If they last 5 years it should cost about the same maintenance as a gas mower. However Ryobi only gives a 1 year battery warranty. If they don't trust their batteries to last longer then why should I? Replacement batteries would cost around $1k. Takes 4 and I saw $250 price but everywhere is out of stock.

The ego seems more safe due to having been in the battery biz for a while and they warranty the batteries to 5 years. However it has the stamped deck, only small size, and replacement batteries are $1800.

Given the info I've learned I'm going to go with a heavy duty gas mower this fall. I have a 7 year old Husqvarna and it has gotten beat up by my country acres.

Edit: Just looked up golf cart batteries. They say should last 4-6 years. Can last longer for private buyers due to less use. Which tells me the bigger yard to have the shorter life span it will have.
buy a John Deere or SCAG. If your country yard is beating up your Husqvarna and you are spending $1K in maintenance every five years you need a different brand mower. Change the oil and filter once a year. Use Ethanol free 91 or greater octane gas. That's all you should need to do for 10 years. (Maybe a change hydro oil if that's serviceable). Everything else would be applicable on electric just the same as gas. That's like $25 a year. Battery operated mowers are impractical at this time.

Appreciate all the feedback! Newer homeowner on an acre. Have some Ego lawn tools but for now pay 50 biweekly to have it done. Been eyeing having my own zero turn

Thank you. Had no idea of different mowers or decks when I bought 10 acres 8 years ago (mow less than half). Yes I'm looking at replacing it soon. Hence why I've been researching mowers so much. I'm looking at everything like grasshopper and Toro as recommended by others also.

Stay away from leak acidic batteries, I had my Ryobi for 2 years and always been plugged in and storaged in garage and my yard is only 1/3 acre. Always have more than 60% left and batteries blows now, i have to recharge it to finish my yard. So batteries is an issue onlyblast 2-3 yrs. Sold it and bought EGO z6. I hope it lasted better than Ryobi since its using lithium ion batteries + I can use batteries on all of my yard EGO tools.
Where on earth or mars did you get the Z6? All I can find is it will be available after summer but them the grass won't grow and I don't want 5k sitting…
