The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

A cheap gas riding mower is $1000. This costs $1000 every five years in maintenance for batteries alone.
… so how much gas and maintenance will cost for 5 years?

This seems like a nice deal for those who have big yards 1+ acre.

I have the non zero turn version of Ryobi's electric mower. I have an acre. When I first got it. I could cut the whole yard and the battery wouldn't even be down to 50%. Sometimes still as much as 70-80%. I was really impressed, because that was really my primary concern when I bought it, was would it be able to do my whole yard. This is my 3rd season. The mower has 70 hours on it. Now, I can cut about half the yard. Then I have to charge it and then I can do the second half. I have always kept it plugged in, which is what Ryobi tells you to do. So, what I generally tend to do is cut the first half, plug it in. Then I do the parts I have to do with my push mower or weed trimmer, and then go cut the second half. With that said, I will happily replace the batteries when it comes to that. Not having to go get gas or store it or change the oil, etc. makes it well worth it to me.

I got the 100Ah a year ago and had to return due to the fact that it was too weak in taller grass/small brush. it would get stuck. other than that I loved it, smooth, quiet, no crank, no smelly gas, no oil changes.

I've had my John Deere ride on mower for four years. I put about 20 hours / season on it. I fill the 4 gallon tank about every 3 hours or so. Round up and say 30 gallons of gas/year. Oil and filters run about $30 for maintenance each year. $100-$150/year?

I have the 75ah version and after 1 yr I can't even get 1 hour out of it on side discharge (not mulching because I can't afford to waste the battety)

Contacted ryobi and they sent me a new gauge which did nothing.

They want me to haul it to a Ryobi repair spot. Closest of which is 40 mins. I have to rent a truck. Take it in. Wait for them to inspect. Rent another truck to pick up. Hope it's repaired.

I contacted the repair shop and there was a 6 week wait. I have not heard back 8 weeks later. At this point I'm outside of the 1 yr warranty on battery, so I may end up paying $200 on truck rentals hauling back and forth only for them to deny a repair.

I'm very unhappy.

Other than battery not issues, everything else is great. Cuts well. Fast. Easy access to blades. Annoying to keep charged 24/7 (have to store in garage) but that's okay
Curious about your method of maintaining the mower.

What process did you follow as far as plugging in the charger to the wall and plugging in the charger to the mower?

The correct process is:

To charge: plug charger into mower wait at least 10 seconds then plug charger into wall.

To disconnect before mowing: unplug charger from wall wait at least 10 seconds, unplug charger from mower.

Also another tip for anyone with these ryobi mowers. If your battery gauge falls out of sync it will report half charge or less but really still have a full charge. To re-sync follow the disconnect procedure above and leave the key in the mower for 15 min in the on position. Turn off the mower and follow the charge procedure above and the next time you disconnect the mower it should be back in sync if it isn't already after letting it sit for 15 min in on position and cycling the key off and back on.

Out of curiosity, is there some sort of formula for Horsepower comparison? I'm guessing that would be complicated to guage since it has 3 separate motors.

Nice, good to know. Looks like 100Ah batteries run about $200 a piece and you'd need 4 of them. A steep price to pay but hopefully they last 4-5 years. I'm certain it's still cheaper than EGO's typical proprietary battery packs. I love my EGO blower and trimmer but $250 for a single battery when the current ones finally die is going to hurt.
With regard to this, home depots extended warranty service gives a discount on batteries (or at least it did when I purchased my non zero turn version of this mower a year ago). One replacement battery and it pays for itself.

basically zero. my cub cadet xt1 ive had 6 years, I changed oil for the 2nd time few weeks ago, to amsoil small engine oil, (oil cost me 20 bucks) new filter cost me 13 from Lowes.

fuel, I go through like two gallons a month, 6 months a year, 20 bucks lets say. over 5 years, thats 100 bucks.

yeah.. electric isn't cheap enough to be worth while yet. give it 10 years, when electrics are around a grand I may switch over to it.

matienance isn't really needed on a reliable mower, just check the belts, mine havnt been touched, nothing. I might put a new spark plug in, but its running great, so I dont even see a point. I keep it on a battery tender in shed, there's a solar panel on it, with a 12v maintainer, im still on the oem battery.

How big is your yard and what area do you live? I live in PA and had a john deere riding mower and had about .75 acres. I used way way way more than 2 gallons a month. I had to fill the tank every time I cut pretty much. Also really needed to do a oil change more often than you are saying. Nice setup with the battery though.

I'm not going to say electric is cheaper, but I don't think it is significantly more expensive.

Yep. I'm sticking with my $200 used Ariens gas riding mower until the smaller battery riding mowers are more affordable. Maintenance is cheap and pretty easy, though I did have to buy a new starter for $50 last year: removal and installation was simple. That's been the biggest expense. Gas for me is under $10 a year. I also got a free case of W30 mower oil on clearance at the auto parts store.

A stamped deck is literally 'stamped' out of a piece of steel. It usually looks a lot more rounded on the corners (and the steel is thinner). A fabricated deck you'd see weld lines and it's usually more squared off (and thicker).
