The batteries on these are just golf cart batteries. You don't have to get them from a proprietary vendor. A huge advantage when these die. Leoch LPC12-75

3 years ago, we bought the 100Ah version of this, without the bagger. 3 years later, we still love it. We have 1.5 acres that are mowable, and we still have 35-40% battery left. All our yard equipment is now ryobi battery, except for the garden tiller.

I think it means the batteries still have juice after mowing that big yard, not the overall battery condition.

For $90/month, go for the regular mower for $1k. Pay for itself in 1yr.
I already have a regular mower. This would actually be for my mother's place. She insists on paying someone or doing it herself so i've been looking for a 2nd hand rider/bragger. It'd be a lot easier if she would just let me do it.

I want to buy a ryobi 40v mower one day, I have a push mower, and a gas mower (both are super expensive) my Husqvarna 800awd is a champ, literally 6- years nothing but an oil change. I only use it for one pass on outside of yard, then I hop on rider and finish it out.

but my grandma is asking if I can start mowing her yard, so think im going to bite the bullet and buy the new brushless ryobi 40v self propelled when one goes on sale. I just cant fork out 600 for one, not yet.

Actua.ly since I am on the topic, if I buy a mower for my grandmas house, id like to know what the difference is here? I have 2 extra 40v chargers, but is there a difference between there's? its confusing, I was trying to compare them. she wants to do yard work but her hand arthritis is bothering her.

looking at these 2, the handles look different, I think the 599 looks better easier, so if she wants to cut it, it would be better. I wish ryobi had AWD push mower. my Husqvarna AWD is a monster.

I don't know how reliable the new version of Ryobi 40V lawnmower is. I have the first generation and I don't recommend it.

I used to have 4 40V batteries: 1 6Ah, 2 5Ah, and 1 3Ah.

Ryobi 40V lawnmower is known to kill the battery without warning to user. When the battery's voltage is dropped too low (one of mine was as low as 6.5V), and all the Ryobi battery chargers of different types refuse to charge the battery.

One of my 5Ah batteries (both 5Ah batteries came with the lawnmower order) had low voltage. All researches on Google did not work for me. I sent it to Ryobi for warranty repair in October last year and it is still sitting at the repair shop (very bad warranty service of Ryobi). At the same time that I sent in my battery for service, I bought 6Ah HP battery on eBay for backup (my lot is 13500 sq ft), but my lawnmower would not accept HP battery because it is too big for the battery slot. I then sold it on Facebook marketplace and bought 6Ah battery.

By this time I have 2 6Ah (one bought from HD when it had special buy deals), 1 5Ah, and 1 3Ah batteries. From lesson learned from 5Ah battery earlier, I would not let each battery's capacity drain to a low level. I mow my lawn for every 15 minutes and swap out the battery and charge battery at the same time. I have 3 40V chargers and all are charging the batteries simultaneously while I mow my lawn. Last month I forgot my own rule of 15 minutes and one of my 6Ah batteries "died".

I just bought this 40V dc-to-dc converter, hopefully to revive my dead battery (I have tried all other methods without success):

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T137H2Y/

I hope this will help someone out there.

Thanks. I appreciate the info. I've used 18v batteries and revived other 18v batteries using gator clips. Lol I had them in a mop bucket in case they exploted. Scary thought

A 30 inch rider? What's the point? Get a push. I wish they would make a 48.

6 years for a consumer doing just his own yard is not very much wear for any mower. As long as you're not storing it outside even the cheapest crap is going to work fine with that kind of mileage. A Husqvarna should easily last you 30 years with that kind of usage.

I should get this eventhough my yard is like 2,800 sq ft. I mean i'm paying a guy $30 to mow and trim my yard every 2 weeks for the past 3 yrs minus 4 months out of the year. then again, I do like the standing mowers more though. i'm kinda lazy...lol

Ha yeah, I fill it's gas tank up like 3x a summer.

I paid big money for it. But I used to have a smaller yard and this was meant for that, then I got half an acre and since I'm fenced I just walk it around the perimeter once and back in shed it goes. Then comes out the rider

Edit

When I bought my home, the people before me paid like 40 a week for cutting. I said screw that!! I paid 1400 for my cub cadet xt1 and 5-6 years hasn't missed a beat. Saves that much in one summer alone probsbly.

The solar panel idea was a good one, as I wanted to leave it in shed always. Before I put it in garage on tender over winter but didn't like it using my space

For me. Gas is currently more economical. When I do get a electric rider I will add more solar panels or whatever to be able to charge the 48v output or whatever so doesn't need to be in my garage

I had a perfectly fine Craftsman 46" lawn tractor and bought this Ryobi 75aH 42" zero turn last Spring and have no regrets. I quickly sold the gas tractor. Yes, electric zero turns are expensive, and maybe someday I will have to replace the batteries, but not having to breathe the exhaust fumes from a gas engine while I'm mowing my lawn is priceless. That was my primary motivation. I couldn't enjoy mowing the lawn and always felt sick afterwards from the fumes. The lower noise level is nice, too, though the blades are loud enough that I still wear noise cancelling headphones while mowing to protect my hearing. For those looking strictly at the cost numbers to decide what to buy, this probably isn't the mower for you. At least not yet. Once these move beyond the early adopter stage hopefully prices come down enough to make them more mainstream.

Is this quiet enough to mow at night without disturbing the neighbors? (My Craftsman 60V push mower seems to be). Post above mentions noise cancelling headphones for blade noise...

Looks nice but a few bad reviews here, with the most credible one mentioning the 75Ah model. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089CZ3...M52AXZNAEP

Nice, good to know. Looks like 100Ah batteries run about $200 a piece and you'd need 4 of them. A steep price to pay but hopefully they last 4-5 years. I'm certain it's still cheaper than EGO's typical proprietary battery packs. I love my EGO blower and trimmer but $250 for a single battery when the current ones finally die is going to hurt.
Key thing with lead acid is keeping the discharges shallow.

If you don't ever use more than 50% of the charge, they should last quiet awhile.
