This is a mechanics set...

Were you planning to hammer and stab your Prius?
232 pieces and it only has 8 wrenches? Ridiculous.
Your kit has a massively inflated number due to the Allen wrenches and the bits. The above kit actually has a usable number of sockets.

How do we feel about this vs the husky set?

https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/644014
I purchased this set a couple weeks ago, and previously had the husky set before that until it was stolen out of my truck. I have to say the husky set was more complete and more overlapping sockets, especially deep sockets. I'm tempted to buy the husky set again and keep these as backups.
It might be worth mentioning that the Husky set includes several 12-point sockets.

I would like to see you remove any Allen bolt that has been in there a while with your leverage only being the short side of the key. You must have some unbelievable finger strength.

You're right, it's not an accident many sets have Allen keys. They are a very cheap way to increase the tool count of the set.

How many more times do you need to post that ad link to earn your spiff?
Ummm. Hex bolts aren't as tight in pound pressure as regular bolts. Seize and corroded on the undercarriage? Nope. However did you miss the part where in this thread where I literally said I have hex socket set and there are uses for it sometimes? For older people with arthritis a hex socket will be beneficial. Lots of hex bolts work? Sure. If I can do the job with a smaller, lighter and readily available in my set, I will use it. No mention about size for tight spots, weight and price difference? .... This isn't comparable to excessive screwdriver bits. That is a problem with skewing the tool count number. Lack of combination wrenches? That is a problem. Getting 25-40 important hex keys isn't a problem when all companies give them.

DeWalt who is highly regarded with their tool mechanic set without having excessive fillers gives 28 hex keys. Husky set gives 40 hex keys. Kobalt has like 26. Tool companies are smart and understand the hex keys important use. My old USA Craftsman set gave me 40 hex keys (2 pouches) and only 9 screwdriver bits in the set.

Craftsman hex ket set costs $20... Husky $16... Kobalt $20... DeWalt $18..... Harbor Freight hex keys are cheaper and can get the job done but we are talking about the more popular brand mechanic sets.

Looks ridiculous in the top cover. Wasting the top cover space. If they were going to give only 8, just throw it in a plastic zip bag and make the storage space empty so people can throw in their socket accessories, breaker bars, etc.. It does look like there is some space in the top cover to put some accessories in. I got 2 USA Craftsman mechanic sets (16 included wrenches in one set and 25 wrenches in the other).... 9 screwdriver bits in each too.

Loop the box end of one of the combination wrenches over the end of the hex key and you'll have enough leverage to break (or strip) the bolt.

Sure, but further proves my point that it's worthless compared to a socket.

Damn, prices have gone up. I got the 320 piece mechanic set for $138 a couple years ago.

It is a great concept. The drawers pull all the way out so you can take it to the project you are working on. It has everything in the same tray. The correct rachet to fit the sockets and so on... i totally love it. Yes they could be a little more snug in tray but its great

Boy am I about to sound old as fark!

I purchased my first tool set from Sears/Craftsman for about $99-$120. It was a big purchase for me and included 189pc and plastic case. It had the basic Allen wrenches (mm and sae) and 6 or 8 screw drivers; the rest of the set was short and deep sockets, wrenches and 1/4 - 3/8 - 1/2 ratchets (32t). I worked on my car, families cars, friends cars, co-workers cars; broke a few tools and had them fix/replaced. I still have the set. All American made true Craftsman. The newer Taiwanese (it's a country China, no matter what you, actors on your payroll and the WHO try to say) tools are pretty well made. I have expanded on the first set with multiple different brands of well made hand and power tools. I'll never buy craftsman power tools again; changed battery designs on me 3 times.

I will however recommend Lowe's brand Craftsman with the lifetime warranty. I've heard these tools are like the old American made Craftsman's. All my craftsman tools have done a wonderful job and taken great care of me through the years. I call my set the poor mechanics Snap-on; lifetime warranty/no questions asked. My original set has cost me $.02 per tool item, per year of service. Nothing can beat that deal.

Definitely buy a non-ratcheting breaker bar in 1/2 and buy 1/2 impact sockets; even if you don't have an impact wrench; use them with the breaker bar. Also buy 6 sided wrenches; multi-sided wrenches can and will strip/round off nuts.

Buy this set and add to it with the best tool you can afford, when you need it. You will not be sorry.

I like Icon, Tekton, certain Pittsburgh tools, Milwaukee, Royobi, Bosch. The tools I have from these companies have been worth every dime. Peace
