So, is this a regular Wally's clearance hunt or what?

It's the listed price, not clearance. But since you can't find 8TB or larger in stock anywhere, this is kind of special.

I bought it because I'm worried that hard drive prices will go crazy for the next couple years, like with graphics.

I am not complaining about the price. I am just saying with the constant increase in storage capacity, 8TB today is like 120GB 20 years ago when compare with 500GB.

Buying ":better" doesn't matter if the item isn't available for sale - which, for most of America is the case with this item.,

It's available pretty widely in Southern California--the biggest hard drive I can actually find in stock. I can't even find 8TB (as "small" as it is) online anywhere. Anyhow, you all obviously are not building a system right now. If you were, you'd realize there's no better alternatives out there.

It's more like 250GB to 500GB (which is 2009 or so). There aren't 30TB drives out there, like you claiming. But yes, I'd much rather be buying 14TB or 16TB.

I was able to order one for curbside pickup at my local store. Nowadays, this is about as good of a deal as you'll find. I wish it was a WD 12-14TB drive, and I wish it was $15/TB or less... But it seems that won't be possible for a while.

A new cryptocurrency called Chia is focused more on storage than computing power. Just like the other cryptos caused GPUs to be unavailable and high priced, Chia is seemingly contributing to that with hard drives.

Things might get worse before they get better.

Edit: Also, this 8TB model I bought seems to be a new model. I can't find information about that model online anywhere to confirm it's shuckable or what potential drives might be inside. I'll take the chance and see.

Yeah, I can't find it anywhere except Walmart and Seagate's website. I hope the internal is a CMR drive and not SMR: https://www.seagate.com/internal-...-smr-list/

Walmart canceled my order. Guess I'm waiting for the backorder I placed on Adorama.com.

Every 8TB seagate I've cracked open recently has a Barracuda compute drive which is SMR.

Yea don't know why this is thumbed down so much hard drives been so beyond hard to find in stock let alone not jacked up big time in price. Most places want $220 for this one exactly. IF they even have any at all. And no telling how long it'll be this way. Hope it don't end up like video cards. I bought two.

Costco recently had an 8TB drive on sale for $120. It's no longer on sale there and I kick myself for not getting it. But, is this drive from Walmart a better model?
