I've been eyeing this garage door for awhile and it's finally on sale. Normally $245, now 20% off for $195 with free shipping or free store pick up. This garage door is CA compliant since it has a backup battery.

I also got the professional installation for an additional $87. Also not a bad deal considering quotes I got from contractors were $150 to $200 just for install.

CA requires a back-up battery because of wild fires. If you need to evacuate quickly, you'll want to use your car. Some people may only have an accessible car in the garage but if the power is out, how will they open the garage open? Yes, there's the emergency cord to manually open and close the door. But not many know about it, know how to operate it or even have the strength to operate it. Imagine your elderly parents in a panic trying to evacuate quickly and but don't have arm strength to pull on the emergency cord or not tall enough or the car is in the way of getting access to it. Then the real panic and irrational thinking starts to set in. But if the garage door can operate with just a backup battery in case of emergency, that's a great peace of mind to have for a little extra $. CA firefighters have found people who died in their garage trying to get out, especially the elderly. Hence the CA law requires backup battery.
Until your power goes out. It's my main entrance to my house. Power goes off while I am not there it gets tricky. It's happened more than once here in the midwest
This is what I use to install mine https://youtu.be/ekPy7w9UIdY

So then I shouldn't be allowed to drive a car, right? Because there's a chance I'll get into an accident. Or cook? Since I could start a fire. I shouldn't have stairs in my house, because I might fall down them. Other people shouldn't be allowed to be fat or to smoke since they take healthcare from those of us who are healthy. Hell, my mattress should be on my floor so I don't fall out of bed! Your logic is flawed. I'm not cherry picking anything at all... I'm absolutely fine if building code was more lax, with the caveat being that my house should be uninsurable if it didn't meet requirements. I don't need mommy and daddy government looking out for my well being, I'm perfectly capable of that myself, thankyouverymuch.
Your car has a lot of mandated safety requirements. A LOT.
Your kitchen, and appliances also have a lot of safety requirements.
Your stairs got handrails? Are the steps all the same size?
Smokers have higher health insurance rates.

As someone who installs Liftmaster's, which are made by Chamberlain. I'd try to find a Chamberlain/Liftmaster DC Chain Opener, they're still quiet and operate a little slower putting less stress on door. Also with the chain you have less chance of the door slightly binding or belt being slightly lose and jumping gears and losing it's travel limits. However that being said, this doesn't take away from the discount and this being a good deal.

I'm not an installer nor have any opinion on specific models or anything, but he does bring up a good point. Just because an opener is belt drive doesn't mean it's going to be as quiet as it could be. My garage has 2 doors (thus openers). Both are belt drive. Same brand but different models. One is way quieter than the other due to the motors.

Got mine replaced on Wed night (DIYer here). Wanted one with a battery backup. Overall, I like it as it is quieter then my old Chamberlain screw drive one, plus the MyQ app is nice (and it's free).

Anyone having problems syncing their B970 to their vehicles with HomeLink? Everything else appears to be working but for the life of me, I can't get it to sync to either of our vehicles. I've read some cars require a bridge but is not needed according to the website (bridge.chamberlain.com). Both vehicles also sync fine to the old Chamberlain on my other garage door (same model), so it's not the vehicles. Saw a bunch of youtube videos to make sure procedure was done correctly, but no joy. My next move would be to reach out to customer service but thought I would check here if anyone is having the same problem or were you successful.

I have two of these. They're awesome and filled with thoughtful features.

Each one has two motion-sensing lights. It's great to walk into the garage and have your lights come on.

The "hold open" feature is great. You can set the door to auto-close after 1, 5, or 10 minutes. The timer will reset if it senses you backing out.

It's really easy to pair new openers (keypads, homelink in the car, etc) and you can do it right from the control panel. No climbing up to the motor to press the pair button!

The keypads it comes with work great. Everything is super intuitive.

Really recommend these.

Give Chamberlain a call. Their customer service is pretty good.
I called Chamberlain and they will be sending out a new logic board. Hopefully that fixes the issues. I'm not sure what I'm going to do if that doesn't work. Take everything down and return to HD? That would suck. I would still need another opener.

Could someone who had it installed confirm that the opener does not include light bulbs?

Just had mine put in. Paid for install when buying the opener online. Local business is contracted through HD, (awesome), they came out took him about 30 mins to take the old one off and put the new one in. It's night and day the difference in sound. If yours is a chain driven one, get this.

Confirmed, it does not. Install manual also say to use only incandescent or CFL bulbs, no LED or halogen.

Does anyone know if this would be too much garage door opener for a one car garage with a metal door? My current garage door opener is only 0.5hp and it works fine (remotes can't be programmed though). Not sure if I should get something cheaper with a weaker motor.

I picked up the Genie 7155l-tkv Costco a couple weeks back when it was on sale… Have not used it yet but debating if I should stick with the genie or go with this… Any input? Pro cons?
Replacing 2 of my garage doors. The leading 2 contenders recommend Liftmaster/Chamberlain openers over Genie. I love Costco but they don't always sell the best.
