I recommend trying the trial as it doesn't have a time limit. It lets you play all of the base game and the entire first expansion. The limits are you can't trade, use market board, join a free company (guild), and are capped at level 60 (current limit is 80). This game is very story driven but to complete dungeons or boss battles, you'll need to queue up with others (there is a duty finder that will look for players to connect you in/dont need to advertise you need help). While there are squadrons (AI teammates), they are limited on what dungeons they can help you in and it requires a bit to unlock them. A MMO more close to solo is SWTOR as I found most content could be done solo.

I do agree that the base game story is quite a slog to go through. It gets a lot better once you get to Heavensward.

it takes forever (at least 40 hours) to get to the good stuff story-wise so if you have a lot of free time it's a good deal. otherwise I would pass

This is the best MMORPG on the market IMO. The story is amazing, especially the latest expansion and the content is so vast. You can choose to play this mostly solo but will be required to do most dungeons/battle content with other people, but those don't really require any communication and there are systems to match you up automatically with others to do that stuff. You can choose to be social if you want. You can really play most of this game at your own pace as you progress through the story, but of course if you want to do new or end-game content then that stuff is most popular shortly after it's released.

A new update 5.55 was just released today so it's a great time to join, as the game is bustling. The release date for the next major expansion 6.0 end walker was also just announced to be in November so plenty of time to play casually and catch up if you wish.

One more. Like others said, play trial and if you like it buy the game but don't register just yet. Wait until you hit level 60 to make most out of your free trial then register to get extra 30 days. After 30 days of your registration, you have to pay $15 monthly going forward since you'll be addicted to it before you know it.

Price is really good as well. Would've costed $80 msrp 2 years ago and it's worth every penny of it.

I preorder every expansion and have spent at least $200 ($40 * 5, from 1.0 to 6.0 -- 2.0 was free for 1.0) where you can get same for $23. It's no brainer.

Last tip. Use someone's referer code from https://www.reddit.com/r/ffxivraf/ to get bonus items when you subscribe.

Pretty sure endwalker includes all expansions prior to it so this isn't really a good deal. The base game can can be had under $20 usually + endwalker. This would cost you more to upgrade to endwalker.

Cool game, but playing this with the controller was very difficult for me. Maybe I'm not as coordinated with others, but it was a fairly frustrating experience

There's a learning curve, but I just beat all of the Savage raids and half of us use controllers.

I believe this matches the cheapest price the full game has been. New expansion coming later this year as well for those looking to get ready.

Apparently if you download the demo, you get free play of the original game and the first expansion for eternity without paying the monthly fee, but when you buy this, it locks you into paying $15 a month after the free 30 days. So, take that into consideration before dropping the $24 on this.

Anyone comment on how this is if you only play solo? Huge fan of RPGs and Final Fantasy, but don't want to do much grouping and chatting online. Looks like a great price and tempted to check it out. Thx!
I started playing FFXIV in January this year and played pretty much like 99% solo, not counting dungeon queues with randoms but that was like maybe 5% of the main story.

Story is freakin' amazing. I'm just finishing up the story up until what's released right now and fully recommend this game. I just bought the full version last month. Highly recommend playing it free until level 60 if you don't want to buy it yet.

Same - I've been renewing strictly to keep my properties since I can't afford an irl house I need something to boost my self-esteem. Super excited for the expansion!
I've been paying my sub for the last 3 years and log in monthly just to avoid losing my house. I had so many good memories in that game and I don't want to lose the property. I made the mistake of trying to power level all of my crafting and gathering classes to try and build the Shirogane walls and I ended up burning myself out. Shortly after the Free Company I was in fell apart, and we were one of the most highly regarded Free Company's. Its such bittersweet sorrow to see the state of the FC and my desire to finish my classes but not having enough time to want to sink back into the game. I feel like it would just be disappointing

PS5 can handle it no problem was just playing yesterday. Getting a trial up and running was super easy too. Getting used to the controller was the most difficult for me, but i imagine it gets better with time

It is not possible to solo play this game completely. There are regular stopping points in the main story (which is required) where you will need to join a group and complete a dungeon or raid. That was a huge turnoff for me at first, but it gets easier.

You can complete the entire game through the Shadowbringers expansion in about 2 months.

With 6-8mbps I'm not even able to start the game (demo) on ps5, I was hoping to solo a bit to see if I liked it and if it was better securing better internet. I will say that I loved the heck out of ffxi and I've heard nothing but good things about this one (especially the expansions).
