Filter Type Permanent. This will be a PITA to get the grinds out.

Edit: Despite what it says, looks like it has a mesh filter that comes out from some of the review pictures. So much for BB entering the correct information.
it's not hard to clean at all, the mesh filter comes out.

i prefer not to clean at all so I just put the paper filter inside the mesh.

I have had this for a year or more now. I have used the removable mesh filter but I prefer paper cone filters for easy clean up. It is hard to find a small pot like this with a cone filter. I think the coffee from a cone type tastes better than the flat type filter.

#2 or #4 cone filter?

I didn't even know 5 cup coffee makers existed. Then I wanted to grab this to replace my super old 12 cup thats awkward to use. Now I'm caught in a philosophical conundrum.

Why get this for 1-2 people when you can just get a k-cup like machine (with reusable filters) that's easier to use for fewer people. If you want a larger one, why not go 12 cup in case you need it? But how often do people actually make 12 cups? How did that become standard? Why do the warming plates always keep the coffee so damn hot? Why am I spending so much time thinking about this?

Nice to know it's designed for the pros

I have their deep fryer I got from Best Buy and it works good. Stainless gets fingerprints.

At home I make one tall cup for myself. It's more than a single K cup but not a waste by using a huge pot.

Also, my experience with the Keurig at work is that the coffee is weak and not very hot. I'm sure I could get a stronger cup but then It would still only be warm and not fresh coffee hot.

5-cup is the perfect size for 1-2 people. For some reason, a "cup" is only 6 oz in the coffee industry, not the 8 oz of a standard cup in the US measuring system. So a 5-cup is 30 oz. If you have a 16 oz travel mug that you don't fill to the tip-top, you get 2 mugs out of it. A Keurig is going to be pretty weak at that point.

If I do have company, I have a 64 oz insulated carafe that I put 2 pots in, and then I have plenty for everyone.

There's a difference between a $10 coffee maker and a $100+ keurig. Kcups are more expensive than coffee grounds. I used to have a keurig machine but tossed it for this coffee maker. It suits my needs a little better.
