Regular price for Costco but model is identical to RX-V6A which sells for $600. In and out of stock at Costco so snagged it as soon as it came available.

I have this, and was getting tired of no responses, so I was thinking of returning it (I got it at Costco for this reason). But just yesterday Yamaha did announce that they were going to offer free board upgrades to fix the problem in the fall, so I guess I'll just wait it out.

Actually Yamaha is stepping up to the plate and offering a proper fix by replacing boards. Denon needs to do the same instead of just offering a hack fix with their black box and power adaptor.
Yamaha is replacing the faulty part, not just offering a bodged work around. I'm much happier with this solution, not to mention by picking this receiver up on sale I saved about $500 over a comparable Denon.

Does this also need an HDMI adapter (like the Denon receivers do) to get 4K 120Hz to work properly?

A free update program will be available starting in fall 2021 to update the HDMI board on these AV receivers to allow for the 4K/120Hz signal transmission with these source devices.
* This HDMI board update is complimentary to customers for 24 months after the program starts.
* We will provide an update of next steps here this summer.
* Be sure to register your product to be notified of next steps and receive direct communication about the update program.

Wow, not until fall? And then who knows how long they'll take to do the board replacement and ship it back to you. Dang, I feel bad for you and other owners of this receiver. The situation with Denon also sucks, but at least you can just get an adapter and they're shipping them right now. I'll definitely be passing on this then. Thanks for the info.

I am hoping that we can do the board replacement ourselves.

It's just an adapter and a firmware update. Why so upset if it solves the problem in question? And available right now vs having to wait months for a board replacement
Not upset at all, just think that Denon should follow Yami's lead and take care of it properly instead of throwing a quick fix at it. Matter of fact, Denon's quick fix external box is already seeing a lot of complaints that it doesn't even work properly. Odds are really high that Denon will also begin offering board replacements because of Yamaha's very smart move. Onkyo had to do something similar a few years ago with bad HDMI boards. I sent mine in and it was fixed quickly and properly. Most people don't want another component and power brick in their systems. Fortunately, I'm just now in the market for a new receiver and can wait until Yamaha ships updated unitsSmilie

Props to Yamaha for promising a plan to fix the HDMI 2.1 issues.

Personally, I'm going to wait for models to be released that have all advertised features ready to use out of the box. I'm not comfortable buying products with promised forthcoming updates.

That entails how long will the wait be, shipping details and costs, what does the warranty cover afterward, etc etc

It's not that big of an issue yet because VRR and 4K/120 isn't working on it yet anyways, which is a little more annoying. Overall, just running my consoles into my tv and eARC out to AVR, which works great.
