This is slowly undoing 100+ years of consumer safety. It's all stuff nobody really had to consider before--certs and civil liability and retailer standards kept things in check--so I don't think very many even realize the danger.

Edit: I certainly don't mean to advise against consumer safety of any kind so thank you for clarifying. I do not want my house to burn down the same as the next person. I actually just checked my APC version of this and it is UL certified so it's not like I'm only running unsafe devices. However the CE 9v NiMH battery charger I picked up today is not certified in any way. I probably could have spent double the money for one that is, but it's a risk I'm willing to take.
