Is it required to buy their GSM SIM?
Because I'm using their Sprint version and it works with the SIM came with the Sprint phone. No need to buy their SIM.

Is there a catch to this?

Just asking because it sounds a bit too good to be true

There was add supported phone comp that I cant recall the name of, but when you called some one you would hear a comercial.. that went over like a lead balloon so they changed it up a bit and some how I lost all my top off credits when they sold it to ting.. IDK It was another free option When freedom pop started phone service.. they both ate up credit$ when they went out of business only to regroup as a different company after they sold the user list..

My point is dont be giving them money for stuff like that.. Nothing is really free..

Grandma will chuck the phone as soon as she hears an ad every time she makes (or receives ? ) a call .

I have their app with a free local number (have to send or receive a text once a month to not lose the number) . I use it for offer up / craigslist transactions where I need to give a number to people when planning to meet up with them.

So it's not required to purchase their sim for $5?

lol your post is so fake it doesnt even make any sense like youre just throwing things in there. somehow ate up credit $ for free service, oooh, scary. i dont think you understand how any of this is supposed to work.

anyways this definitely sounds worth checking out for a kid. i assume voice and text are virtually no strain on the network (not 100% sure on voice) so it's probably a workable business model even if they only make a cent per user per week on ads or something.

If you already have data provider or wifi, you don't need the SIM to use their app. This is for people who don't have any other cell provider but want to use calling and texting for cheap.

noob huh? guess you are too young to remember, but it did all happen.. you had to have $$ in a account to get the full use of the "free" stuff.. Search Ring plus and freedom poop.. it is all in those threads.. And I did try to get the " text now" thing to work years ago with zero satisfaction.. I found out about it here.. "Fake"? Arg.. you did not look at my stats. I have 5yrs on you..

I have been here for over a decade.. I think I have seen it all at least 1 time before. If it works for you great. Maybe it is different with the T-Mobile GSM service, but I have my doubts. Lets see how it is going for the folks in a year.. I am just saying dont be sucked in paying money for a free service like I did with those 2 "free" services..
