Remember, one person stamped on the blade is from secondary markets (Spain, China), while the twins are German.

Triplets are Swedish and Quadruplets are from a secret lab in the basement of Cal Tech. Those last two are hard to find but I picked some up at Marshall's a few weeks ago.
Thanks for taking the time to post all the links, awesome !!
Looks like you got the last cleaver. **Shake fist**

Can anyone explain the differences between all the different lines?
The knives with the two "twins" are higher-end Zwilling knives, and are a big step up in quality from the lines that only have a single "twin" on the blade. I recommend the "Four Star" line or the "Professional S". The Four Star line has comfy, very slightly rubbery handles and the Professional S series has the traditional handle. Both have excellent blades that are forged and not stamped, and so are better balanced and better made.

Please check blade hardness and blade angle before buying. Take the Santoku for example, I don't understand the point of 15-degree on 55-58 HRC, that's not hard enough to hold the thin edge (Japanese knives are 61-63 HRC).

Edit: if you want sharp thin edge, the Nexus series is on sale. Those blades use American's BD1N steel at 63 HRC, even slightly better than Japanese VG10.

I am confused.
Looking at Q&A here:

Made where??
The Nexus 9.5-inch Chef's Knife is made in China.

Is it duplicitous that this knife is called "American" but made in China?
The BD1N steel the knife is made with is made in America. The knife itself is put together in China.

We are making steel here, shipping it to China, they make blades & knifes and ship it to us?
Confused

Thank you both. That gives me encouragement. The Nexus does look enticing. @sillyxone Which ceramic rod are you using? I have a Cooks Standard which ceramic rod. It does the job on inexpensive everyday knives. Not sure how it'll do on a BD1N blade though.
I have the Messermeister Ceramic Rod 12" (1200 grit). Any ceramic rod would work fine as they're much harder than steel (but brittle so don't drop them). I believe the Cook has finer grit (3000?), so it should work fine with BD1N steel, less damaging to the blade.

Hell yeah! In for 3 ($61 free shipping!).

Since I bought my brother the Chef knife, using any other knife in the kitchen feels like slumming it. Now I have a few more options!

Yes, it is actually extremely common to have US steel made into knives in either the countries of China or Taiwan. The cost of labor and overhead in the states is high enough that even with the extra shipping the overall cost is less than domestic production.

I always wondered what grit the rod was. Couldn't find any information anywhere. But, yes, it definitely feels like a fine-grit. Now I know. Thanks! Honestly, I think I'd prefer a lower grit so I might pick up the Messermeister. At least that way I have an option.

Late to the party but thrilled to see they still had some of the pro line chefs knives still in stock. Great prices!

The pro chef's knife they sent had a badly cracked bolster. I finally got through to support and they asked for pictures, which I promptly sent, and they went back to ignoring me. I sent a complaint to the New York Attorney General and, after pdf'ing all the documents for them and writing a summary, I figured I'd use the same info to open a dispute via webform with American Express.

AMEX refunded all my money within literally ten minutes. They will close the dispute in September if they don't get a response from Zwilling, which they probably won't, and I at least get a free five star 6" carver that was also part of the order.

Since it's already all written up, I may proceed with a BBB complaint anyway as well.

That's it for Zwilling - after the Macy's screw up and now this, forget it. The companies that make the top-tier Japanese style knives in China pay attention to you and will do backflips to make you happy, and their knives are actually a joy to care for and maintain.
