Those prefilters are the outside sleeves and main particle/carbon filter lasts about 6 month per manual. OEM filter costs ~$80 so ~$160 per yr. Filter cost is definitely on the expensive side compared to some other brands that last ~1 yr on $70-80 OEM filter.
Reading is fundamental. Amazon site was for reference, OMG.
Fyi, the filters are not HEPA but some proprietary kind.

Mine got delivered today, shipped Monday I think.

Nice unit. Definitely big. Unique smell close to the unit when running, sort of oddly sweet and yeasty like a bakery or something lol, not bad, but noticeable. Hopefully will dissipate a bit with some run time. I assume this is the filter smell people talk about.

How often are you supposed to change the inside sleeve vs the outside sleeve?
Outside sleeve is vacuumable, you vacuum the sleeve while it is on the unit. I suggest every 2 weeks or when it's visibly dusty. Don't put it in the washer if there's visible dust or you will find that all the dust pills up with the wash, making the prefiler look gross and making you have to vacuum it anyway.

Inside filter is rated at 6 months if you ran it continuously on the highest setting. You can possibly extend its life by running it periodically or vacuuming the ribbed side of the filter at your own risk. For real HEPA filters, the benefit of doing so is marginal [smartairfilters.com].

Anybody try the ikia ones? They are $65 and filters are $6 each!
No wifi, no timers. Just a speed controlled fan and a filter, a really inexpensive filter. They sell a separate air quality monitor but they don't sell it in California because it "doesn't meet the state's stringent air quality regulation requirements"

If you run this while smoking crack in a small room would it take care of the smell instantly?

i got this the last costco $200 sale. it seems fine, less monthly dusting, very quiet, but i wish they had included the better media that also removes chemistry not only particulates, which separately only costs $10-$20 more, so when you are ready to replace the main filter media, get the more expensive one for about $75 instead of $60 (they go on sale every month or so).

The Ikea ones are decent - biggest benefit are the design/style (you can wall-mount it like a picture or use the included stand) but it's a relatively low volume purifier (rated for something like 70 cadr, or about a 10x10 - 12x12 foot room).

I bought 2 of these (they used to sell them in CA but recently stopped); They upped the price from the original $55 + $5.50 filters and $9.99 carbon filters (now it's $60 / $6 / $12.99)

The filter prices are definitely the best, but a few notes:

The filters are all separate, so $18.99 for the hepa + carbon filters (previously $15.49 for both), and there is no pre-filter on it.. the pre-filter is part of the unit itself and I don't think it can be washed.

Also, no automatic control (its essentially a fan with 3 speeds) and can be loud. If you want to be all-in for about $60 (minus the carbon filter) it's nice.

If you want something a little nicer, I suggest the Levoit Core 300 for about $80-90 which has a 3-in-1 filter (Hepa+Carbon+pre-filter) which can be had for $25 each or by an OEM aftermarket brand for about $22.99 for a 2-pack

I'm a huge fan of blue air, top rated across consumer reports and wire cutter. One call out these aren't the automatic air filters that adjust fan speed based on air quality. As long as you're willing to do manual adjustments, they're great. I have a mix of automatic blue air and manual blue air throughout the house. If I did it over again, I would buy larger units like this one.
Having a few different air purifiers (manual and automatic), you definitely appreciate the auto speeds once you've had it. Whether it's for cooking, outdoor odors or smoking -- having it auto kick into high speed and adjust back down is a huge benefit.

I thought the manual dials would be fine until after having auto control for a while and then moving to manual. If it's going to be in a bedroom (no cooking, and you're not smoking) it's probably not that big of a deal though.

I haven't tried this one personally, but it's my experience with a number of the higher end Levoit ones.

How is the noise on these? I have an older air purifier in my bedroom that is probably a little noisy if you had it in a living space, but is great for white noise when you are sleeping.

If the Google home is acting up, we turn the fans on high and they act as white noise. Yep

Bought my daughter one of these because she bought a house from a smoker. We just moved them to the house and I can say that after running on high for 2 days the filter has made a noticeable improvement in the air quality of the house. Cleaning crews came and removed the old carpeting and scrubbed the subfloors and walls and cabinets and the smoke smell wasn't too bad, but the 50+ year of house still had a funky smell that I can only describe as old Wisconsin supper club. After 2 days the smell is almost gone.

Be sure to check your local energy provider for rebates. In Pennsylvania, I received a $50 rebate which was done online and approved in less than 10 days. This makes this an even better deal.

I ordered this deal and it came with the upgraded filter. I don't know what the basic filter looks like, but stickers on the box indicate carbon upgrade and the inside of the filter looks dark gray (almost black), I presume the carbon.

PARTICLE filter media captures pollen, dust, pet dander, mold spores and bacteria, while ACTIVATED CARBON PELLETS remove stronger odors, smoke, gases and VOCs up to 2 x faster.

I see. The box mentions particle filter and then particle+carbon filter. I didn't realize there is a third option of extra protection filter with carbon pellets as a further upgrade. I don't even see plain particle filters anywhere....must be an old option.

Just opened mine to setup. The carbon filter part is the inner black filter. You can buy an upgraded filter that has actual carbon pellets, but included one has just the basic carbon filter.
