Link is to Amazon at $219 from a third party seller, not woot. This is the right link:

Finally caught one of these threads in its infancy so I can deliver this PSA with a decent chance of people noticing:

Please know that these phones have been known to develop dangerous battery defects within a year or two, where the battery swells to the point where the back cover pops off, wireless charging no longer works, and obviously invalidates its water resistance rating. Take a look at this thread with over 200 reports before it was locked: https://support.google.com/pixelp...tery?hl=en

This was widely reported among news outlets as well: https://www.google.com/search?q=p...tery+swell

Many users in the thread, as well as myself, have been able to get replacements out of warranty for the issue, but there's no telling how long these replacement devices will last either, and there's no guarantee of the out of warranty replacements continuing a year from now when the warranties for these new purchases runs out.

If you are considering getting this, just take into consideration that between this hardware issue and the software EOL at October, expect to get a year or two use out of it before you're forced to look for an alternative.

These are quite acceptable risks, given the cost of the phone. At least the user has a choice whether to replace the battery or buy a new phone afterwards, since there are enough both original and non-original batteries on sale. Apple, for example, against replacing the components in the phone with somebody else, except their service with an appropriate price.

Idk I mean for a little more you could get a 4a or even a used or refurbished flagship 4. With the battery issue (most users aren't popping out warped batteries and replacing them on their own) plus the phone not getting software updates past this year ehhh the price is ok but Im not sure about the longevity of the phone hardware issues and short software support

Because it's actually not pink by any means, but rather beige or something.

This is a problem with Lithium ion batteries in general. You have no idea whether your expensive device will operate for years and be fine or whether the battery will fail and pose a serious risk. There is seemingly no regulation and no plan for owners to safely dispose of these things. Meanwhile people (myself included) continue to buy cheap devices with lithium ion batteries from unknown sources for convenience...scary. NiMH batteries didn't pose this risk as far as I know.
