Volt is their hybrid, electric and internal combustion. Bolt is plug in EV only for power.

Bolt is not eligible for the $7500 Federal Tax Credit anymore due to GM hitting the 200,000 vehicle threshold. There are a couple of proposals floating around including $7,000 credit for manufacturers over the prior cap and up to $12,500 for US union produced EVs (which the Bolt would qualify for).

Basically the support falls on party lines, unless it can be worked into a reconciliation bill or they blow the filibuster it's not happening.

Edit: just for clarity, didn't want to get the politics argument going on this more just a realistic view of whether the credit will get added to make this a much better deal.

Stopped at my 'authorized' dealer for Costco.
2021 hatchback with a few amenities...
(Don't have a relative/friend that works for GM.. would have saved me $15-20/month)

Lease 30k, $1300 down (first month + all taxes and fees) with all incentives available inclui Costco)

$325/ month.

Uhh...no
Uh....no.

Government doesn't need to jam it down our throats. High gas prices will do the job just fine. In the last few months, everyone I know that's buying a new car is buying an EV (SoCal Area). Not just Tesla; Mustang, Niro, Bolt, etc.

If you have a garage, it's a much more convenient to have an EV than an ICE car. Plug in when you get home, full "tank" when you leave. The last time we needed to supercharge (40% to 80%), it was done before we even got our drinks from nearby boba shop.
Yep. Until the rolling blackouts... that you already have in CA. lol

Correct!
The US electric grid can accommodate the EV electricity draw as long as EVs remain relatively novelty items as they have been so far.

It can NOT accommodate the almost 300 million US cars even if they plug in the off hours between 12am and 6am.
It can accommodate the few million EVs in circulation today but without GREATLY expanding electricity generation stations there will be not just rolling blackouts but permanent blackouts.

And that quantity of electricity generation will not come from solar and/or wind, not enough there!
NEW electric power generating plants will be necessary and the only realistic alternative is nuclear which is a NIMBY item!
Electricity rationing will be the thing, which is similar to the rolling blackouts the poster above mentioned.

So, don't hold your breath waiting for the EV revolution given all these constraints.
It'll be a choice of charging your EV or sleeping comfortably thru the night with the AC on!!!!

Now, think about the 1.5 billion cars, and fast growing, in the world and you can see the EV problem multiply itself worldwide.

The next problem will be disposing of the billions of dead lithium batteries, pretty toxic stuff.
And finding the precious metals and materials to build these lithium batteries in the first place, that are mined only in a few places in the world.

Not that I'm in the market, but out of curiosity, what would it cost to buy outright, with financing, with the most common options but nothing too fancy, and with incentives, rebates and subsidies included? Unless and until they can get these to under $25k and preferably $20k, as well as develop a robust national recharging and repair network, it's going to continue to be a niche if slowly growing market. And I'm someone who'd like my next car to be an EV or at least hybrid.

Btw, how viable is it for a decent amateur home mechanic to maintain one of these, who is capable of doing most repairs on traditional internal combustion engine vehicles?
Not much to maintain my guy

This is the myopic response I expect from those that have no vision and are content to simplistically regurgitate dire predictions without considering the fact that all of the potential "problems" you cite have real solutions which are being implemented and developed.

I am glad I didn't hire you to steer my boat to dock, all you would do is tell me how windy it is. Be quiet and dock the boat.

Back to a lease deal-don't just throw around monthly payment numbers here, wondering if you can get there. Discover your fixed numbers (RV, MF, incentives, etc) and create your own deal using the forums and calculator at leasehackr, and propose dealer pre-incentive discounts that others have achieved. Do some work. Have some fun. Solve a problem. Get a great deal on a really cool car.

On the contrary, my friend, that's reality and the laws of nature constraints.
And, by the way, be a responsible adult, take full responsibility for your actions, study the maritime depth charts, and dock your own boat, or you'll hit the rocks and sink!
Don't expect others to do your job!!!

Was looking at prices the past couple weeks. Thought I was lucky that I held off from purchasing but noticed that dealers with the lowest prices around 25k before the Costco promotion have now raised prices by about 3k to 28k.

You realized the rolling blackouts are cause by high temperature creating high fire risk environment, right? Not a issue of electricity generation like in TX.

Wait until July when the $5,000 rebate from the state of New Jersey is scheduled to return. Costco rebate expires at the beginning of August so you should be able to make something happen then. No sense in leaving that 5 grand on the table if you can wait.
Do you know when it will return? Website says that it won't return until 2022 as the 2020 sales had already eaten up the 2020 budget?

I've been through a 5 day blackout with an EV. Hardest part was getting the garage door open. There were dozens of options to charge in nearby towns. The lines for gas were horrible though.

How you gonna charge your car in a blackout?

I have nothing against electric cars but until the econuts support the only logical source of electric generation for a modern society (nuclear) I won't support the ridiculous push for EVs.
