Volt is their hybrid, electric and internal combustion. Bolt is plug in EV only for power.

Bolt is not eligible for the $7500 Federal Tax Credit anymore due to GM hitting the 200,000 vehicle threshold. There are a couple of proposals floating around including $7,000 credit for manufacturers over the prior cap and up to $12,500 for US union produced EVs (which the Bolt would qualify for).

Basically the support falls on party lines, unless it can be worked into a reconciliation bill or they blow the filibuster it's not happening.

Edit: just for clarity, didn't want to get the politics argument going on this more just a realistic view of whether the credit will get added to make this a much better deal.

Stopped at my 'authorized' dealer for Costco.
2021 hatchback with a few amenities...
(Don't have a relative/friend that works for GM.. would have saved me $15-20/month)

Lease 30k, $1300 down (first month + all taxes and fees) with all incentives available inclui Costco)

$325/ month.

Uhh...no
Uh....no.

How you gonna charge your car in a blackout?

I have nothing against electric cars but until the econuts support the only logical source of electric generation for a modern society (nuclear) I won't support the ridiculous push for EVs.
they better carry a hand crank generator

I take that you prefer a 10,000 PSI tank sitting right next to you in a car? A 100 PSI air tank that explodes in a garage can do a lot of damage. Imagine what happens when a 10,000 PSI tank explodes. And you're sitting right next to it.
add to that H leak is not detectable and it burn . H cars are total failure waste of money

Do you know when it will return? Website says that it won't return until 2022 as the 2020 sales had already eaten up the 2020 budget?
"Due to the success of the post-purchase incentive and limited funds, potential applicants must have purchased or leased their EV by December 15, 2020 to be eligible for the post-purchase incentive. Pending the approval of the Fiscal Year 2022 budget, the program will reopen with a point-of-sale incentive during Summer 2021 for vehicles purchased on/after the date of program re-launch."

2022 refers to the fiscal year, not when the program will re-launch. It sounds like it is still on track for this summer. July has always been the time frame that they were mentioning.

Send an email to each place you would go to (few hours away). I did this for my wife with a Kia Optima. Only ~4 of 20 places replied, but I got a great deal on the exact car she wanted. Required no bs at all. The paperwork just said "out the door price $xxxxx" Nothing was filled in for the car price, taxes, fees, etc.
Their financing ended up being awful - essentially cancelling out much of the incentive if we had taken it to full term, but we just paid it off in less than a year to minimize the interest.

------------------------------------

I am looking to buy a 2021 Chevy Bolt with ____ package . I have already been to a dealership and driven this car. I am ready to make a purchase and am now just looking for the most competitive price. I am looking to complete this by the end of the month.

I have ~XXX credit score and am planning to finance through the dealership. I see this car would qualify for _______ bonuses or incentives.

I want the car to have the ____ interior and ____ exterior, but other options are acceptable.

If you have any matching inventory, please send me an itemized "out-the-door" price for your best offer to make this sale happen through your dealership. Include taxes for STATE, ZIP.
(also shipping if very far)
I appreciate the advice, this is exactly what I spent a month doing. I got good offers, as the end of the month neared and they still had 2020s in stock they asked me to come in for a shot at the price I was looking for, then offered me 25% higher than what we had previously negotiated. Seems like poor form, perhaps the Chevy dealerships in the area just cannot get to the prices other places in the nation can.

Was looking at prices the past couple weeks. Thought I was lucky that I held off from purchasing but noticed that dealers with the lowest prices around 25k before the Costco promotion have now raised prices by about 3k to 28k.
Remember that chevy did the shell game. Only june 1st was the 12k rebates and the costco. After than they lowered the rebates to 10k, so really it was only meant to boost it by 1k. And yes all the dealers but one in my area are charging full msrp. They have been doing the shell game for 3 months now, all want $27k for a few optioned LT, no matter the rebates/discounts. Unless i want to drive 100-150miles...

Have you looked at the Kia Niro? I bought one in late 2018 and it's a hybrid and pretty good. Usually get 48 mpg on summer and around 37 on winter.

Not sure if I would invest in another hybrid or EV as I too expect better models to come out.

Edit: they have Niro EV as well. But not familiar with range etc..
I have a 2020 Kia Niro EV, and it's pretty great. They have a lot of incentives on those as well, but I still end up paying ~$11k for a 36 month lease, so not a particularly slick deal. I do feel like it's a better car than the Bolt though.

Nice! I like my 2018 Niro hybrid but wished it had the features the new ones have. And also I wished I had picked the Next trim up, EX.

I don't think I would feel comfortable driving in a smaller car, like the bolt, or sedan EV

"Rolling blackout", it's not like the TX blackout that last 3 days. It last an hour or less, and usually during the afternoon. I went for a walk the last time it happened and that was two summers ago.

Just stop.

Stop pretending that a once in a lifetime thing in Texas (that was a result of silly green ideals anyways) is in anyway close to as bad as California having consistent rolling blackouts as a matter of policy. You're told it has to do with fire prevention but it's also to do with the lack of power generation you have available during period of high heat when people are using air conditioning.

The point REMAINS that unless you support nuclear there is ZERO chance of a functioning all-electric society. And California is further behind than most because you're killing off nuclear.

27k for a 40k msrp car... That's still a good deal.

It was never a $40k car, all chevy msrp's are very inflated. At the absolute peak, a fully decked out premier might have cost $36k on a $45k msrp in 2019. The federal tax credit ran out during the 2018 model year. But in CA for the last 6 months you could get them for $11-12k with state and gm incentives. And for the last six months you could shop and get LT's for 20-22k, even jersey had an additional $5000 incentive.

The bolt is the most bare bones commuter car out there. If you delete the "ev" part, its a lower value than a honda fit. In interior is very budget, and the outside might have half the square footage painted, the rest is black plastic.

Id love to get one with 40k miles on it for $15k, but thats only because i could save $1000-1500 a year on gas. Else im better off getting a fit or something else similar sized.

This article may not be exactly the same concept (EV vs ICE) but think is a good read on how folks felt about cars when horses were prevalent.

The price was inflated because of the tax credit. Tesla did the same thing. As soon as it ended they dropped the price. Chevy is just keeping the MSRP and giving it as an incentive. The LT is less of a good deal but the fact remains that for a car like the Premier where you can get it for 30k or less, that's a good deal. The thing is very well equipped and does 0-60 in about 6 seconds...

Cars have gotten very expensive... Like I said, my buddy got a 2021 LT for 26,500 all in (tax included) without a trade so that means he got the car for about 24,000... Idk what cars you're looking at but it's definitely better than a 24k comparable car. Especially when you consider the gas savings and performance. I buy a new car every year and a half, I'm not new to this. BTW if you want the best resale value in a car go buy a Dodge Charger or Challenger with the 6.4L. I traded both of my two previous 6.4L Dodges for more than I paid for them brand new. Basically a free car.

It should be noted that the Bolt has a limited top speed of 92 miles an hour.
