Terms have changed, the original Pixel is the only one that will get unlimited Original Quality for life. The Pixel 3/XL will get unlimited Original Quality until January 31, 2022, after that it's going to be compressed (1-2 MB) with their new marketing term "Storage Saver".

Original Quality after the mentioned date will count against your account storage, so it would be best to just use their unlimited Storage Saver.

The rest of the phones including their 'a' variants get unlimited Storage Saver as of now.

As for ownership, it doesn't matter if you're the 5th owner of an original Pixel, as long as it's linked to your Google account, that specific model will get you unlimited original quality... only if uploaded from that device.

Even for a 3 year old phone, you won't be able to find a better brand new phone at the $200 price point.

Maybe it's just me, but this sounds like it would be way too much of a nuisance to limit one's self to 30-40% battery before having to think about plugging in again, even if it is for ~20 mins.

This probably works well if you're indoors a lot but it sounds like a hassle to worry about battery health if you're someone who is often outdoors.

Also, it probably only makes sense to do this if you're keeping your devices 4-5 years or more. I've used plenty of phones for 3 years while charging nightly and the batteries were still decent towards the end. Not great, but decent.

Does this still get the free unlimited photo uploads or is that only for the original owner?
Thanks!

I bought a mint oneplus 8 5g for 299...see no reason to pay 200 for a 3XL. Battery life is horrible on all pixels aside from "a" series and Pixel 5.
That's because people don't know battery management. Don't charge over 80% and don't let it drain below 40%. My personal standard is 80% to 50% and usually I charge when at 60%. Only 20 minutes is needed for each charge. My 2016 Pixel XL battery health is 98%.

Quick History:
Pixel 3 was Introduced in 2018.
Newer Version is Pixel 5 and the price is 699$.
Pixel 6 is coming and you can expect the Pixel 5 to be reduced.
This is not even a good deal.

What if I have an original Pixel and a iPhone both linked to the same Google Photo account. What about photos backed up to Google Photo from my iPhone? Thanks.

You would need to transfer those iPhone photos/videos to the Pixel, and then upload from there.

As of June 1, 2021, new uploads from iOS will count against your Google online storage.

Edited previous comment for more clarity.

Have had this exact phone for 2.5 years now. It's a champ and still runs fine to this day. Has it been perfect...no. Is it a good phone worth $200...yep.

The camera still goes toe-to-toe with any current phone on the market.

Yes, you will likely lose OS updates at the end of the year, but if your smart and update your apps, you should be just fine.

I was gonna pay $80 to replace the battery, but hell...mind as well just buy a new one.

Paid street price when they 1st came out, mine has been flawless except now nearly 3 years later battery isn't holding a charge, which is expected. Got one today to replace it to use until the Pixel 6 is released...great deal, and honestly has been a great phone!

? Had my Pixel 3A for 3 years and it still holds battery charge like when I first got the phone. Matter a fact this phone is the only phone I had that after 2 years I didnt need to open up and replace the battery. Quick Charge still works like day one also. Best battery I have owned on a phone....is there better? Yes but for me this has been the best I have owned.
