Terms have changed, the original Pixel is the only one that will get unlimited Original Quality for life. The Pixel 3/XL will get unlimited Original Quality until January 31, 2022, after that it's going to be compressed (1-2 MB) with their new marketing term "Storage Saver".

Original Quality after the mentioned date will count against your account storage, so it would be best to just use their unlimited Storage Saver.

The rest of the phones including their 'a' variants get unlimited Storage Saver as of now.

As for ownership, it doesn't matter if you're the 5th owner of an original Pixel, as long as it's linked to your Google account, that specific model will get you unlimited original quality... only if uploaded from that device.

Even for a 3 year old phone, you won't be able to find a better brand new phone at the $200 price point.

Maybe it's just me, but this sounds like it would be way too much of a nuisance to limit one's self to 30-40% battery before having to think about plugging in again, even if it is for ~20 mins.

This probably works well if you're indoors a lot but it sounds like a hassle to worry about battery health if you're someone who is often outdoors.

Also, it probably only makes sense to do this if you're keeping your devices 4-5 years or more. I've used plenty of phones for 3 years while charging nightly and the batteries were still decent towards the end. Not great, but decent.

Smart move. CalyxOS.org has worked out really well for both my P3 and P4.
Can anyone confirm that the bootloader is unlocked on this version? B&H chat wasn't very helpful for me.

Is this considerably better than a Note 9?
The Samsung Note 9 has annoying curved screen edges. This has a big annoying notch.

Carrier unlocked only? Or is the bootloader also unlocked?
Bootloader should be unlocked, its the unlocked model which has unlocked bootloader. They are selling the Verizon (locked bootloader) models seperatly.

It helps for being a desk jockey. And I've no problem to keep the battery between 80% to 50%. They call it "attention to details". My point is the battery is not going to die in 3 years like people make it out to be, if you keep the proper maintenance. The same with cars. No, much less hassle than cars.
Lol its not so much "attention to detail" as it is just checking your battery percentage and trying to time your next charge, which basically makes owning your device a chore. If it makes you happy, then great, but I rather just start my day at 100% and have one less thing to think about.

Like I said, my phones were still perfectly usable after 3 years. My iPhone XR was just under 3 years old when I traded it in and it was still at 91% after charging nightly so all of this effort just doesn't seem like it's worth it unless you plan on keeping the same phone for a very long time.

Also, I wouldn't really compare something that you have to do once or twice a day vs. maintenance on a car, which is done every 3-6 months.

A71 is not a better phone. Pixel 3 was a flagship phone from Google when it was released. Don't compare low tier phones with flagship models thinking you are getting a better deal.
Can I get an Amen?

It's not a chore to me. It is a chore going to a car service center for the scheduled maintenance. And cost even more.

I went and purchased this phone from woot $40.00 more and have no regrets. The phone performs flawlessly and did some tweaks to prolong battery life. The photos are awesome. I was able to download latest android no problem. The audio and call quality is superb. I refuse to pay $1000.00 for a phone however $199.00 is reasonable.

This is really the best phone I have used for almost two years before switching to a Pixel 4A 5G, purely because of the battery issue, I couldn't able to get more than 2-3 hours battery and constantly had to charge. Can't believe this almost 3 years old wouldn't crap out on battery within a month or two and the resale value is really depreciated now, you won't be getting $50 even if you decide to sell tomorrow. The good thing was Google gave me almost $250 for trade in and that was the best thing for this phone and I immediately traded in.
I wouldn't recommend this phone.

I just bought the Pixel 3 (non-XL) and I'm very happy with it so far. About the only complaint is the battery could have been a little better, but otherwise it's been a very nice experience thus far (I've had it about a month now).
Wait til it starts freezing in you due to poor memory management

Thanks OP. Just bought one but it is already back ordered. The 64GB one is still available and not back ordered. I do not recommend the 64GB at this point since it is only a $20 difference. Get the 128GB.

It's hard for me to imagine buying a 3 year old phone for like $200...especially when EOS has already been announced. That said, I bought three of these phones from Swappa a couple weeks ago for ~$94 each. Verizon was/is offering $800 trade-in credit when trading these. Cheapest (used) phone on the $800 list, so hence buying several of them. Should be sending them in later today.

The screens and cameras are nice and the operation is snappy. If it wasn't for the end of support I'd recommend one. Then again, if you're okay with using for a short period of time and jumping to a new phone in....a year(?) or so then that could make sense too.

Been using the 3XL for a couple of years and have been mostly happy with it. There are some bugs that I learned to live with and it's starting to show signs of battery degradation, but overall a solid phone. The camera is excellent, beats out my wife's IPhone in most lighting conditions.

I can see myself squeezing this out for another couple of years (if the battery holds up)

Can anybody confirm if these models are directly from Google? I'm interested in eSIM functionality, I've heard many unlocked models (Verizon, AT&T) do not have eSIM enabled.
