I picked up the same model reconditioned from total wireless today. The price for it with the cheapest prepaid option came out to about $150 shipped. No autopay requirement. It is locked to the carrier but for my purposes it is being used as a cheaper alternative to an ipod for my son (no cellular needed). I am taking my chances on the reconditioned. I figured I would share for anyone interested. Sign up for their coupon on their site for the discount to reflect the price I mentioned.

The only option I have is curbside and the site is making me pay the full amount.

Would I just go in-store have them activate it and get credit?

It is not automatically unlocked. You need to request one, but it doesn't have to be used on the network, IIRC. A little over 6-months time, you can submit an unlock request, so it works out to be 7-prepaid payments.

I'm currently on an AT&T post-paid Family plan and am eligible for an upgraded device (not under contract). Does that mean I could purchase this device & activate it on my account (and not activate as a new pre-paid line?)

Yes, that is correct. You do not need to activate the prepaid service. You will spend $200 ($150 + $50 for 1-month service) plus any applicable taxes. You can just pop in your postpaid SIM and it should just work. There shouldn't be anything to activate on your existing postpaid account. It is just moving your SIM from one phone to another, as long as the SIM is compatible.

Can not replicate this deal.
Went to two different Walmarts and no Iphone SE at either store. The knowledgeable electronics guy said he has not seen an Iphone for ATT prepaid in the past year and half. He also has not heard of this $150 deal. He said I can order online and get it to his store for $250 but he has no way to reduce it to $150 with any ATT prepaid plan. So besides OP has anyone duplicated this deal?

He also said ATT prepaid at Walmart is clearing out all their existing ATT prepaid phones 50% off like the Motorola "G" (or something) at $49. He knew there were new phones coming in but he did not know which ones. So maybe the Iphone SE will be at Walmarts soom?

Went to walmart today and the electronics guy knew about the deal and they had the phones in stock but the walmart system would not allow them to setup autopay in order to get the discount. Walmart is always so behind the ball.
