I live in Yexas so good deal for me Smilie
What a ridiculous statement. H‑E‑B is always at the top of grocery retailers annual lists. There are certain retailers in parts of the US who are known to have amazing stores, and anyone who has travelled has encountered them.

H‑E‑B = Texas
Meijer = Midwest, upper middle
Wegman's = NE for the most part, but a little East as well
Publix = Florida

There's many more than that short list. Kroger does a good job also, but they are bigger than the regional retailers.
BM only and only in Yexas

I've seen a ton of places. You wanting to leave Texas really has nothing to do with the quality of HEB as a company, and it's not all about their prices.

And your last statement about people thinking so high of HEB because they're being extorted is just a nonsensical head-scratcher. HEB takes care of their employees and customers (see the CEO's 99% approval rating.) They were preparing for the pandemic [texasmonthly.com] weeks before our own federal government. They do a TON for the community/charity efforts, especially during the holidays. They keep prices level or lower them when there's a crisis here, of which we have had many. Could go on all day. If that's me having a low standard, I'll take it.
We love our HEBs! I ended up spending the pandemic in Ohio. Back in San Antonio now for the summer and so happy to go to HEB. Leaving now to get this deal....

There's not only 1 Aldi store in Central Texas. We have 2 of them in Killeen and 1 in Temple-- nothing recent about it. Aldi opened around 2015 and the new one in 2018. A couple more down near Austin, if you consider that Central. There are other ways Aldi keep their prices low [tasteofhome.com]. I've bought plenty from there. Some things are great, but other things I didn't find to be that good (produce/meat). I'll take the quality and variety of HEB-brand products over Aldi any day. There's nothing that's so low-priced at Aldi that it makes me go there, and I'm all about saving a dime.
Wow. Just as your experience was bad at select visits to Aldi vs many to HEB, me as a former Texan and current Midwesterner previously shopped at some Houston-area HEB (mostly as a last resort) but preferred Fiesta, Randall's, Kroger's. Now that I've shopped at dozens of Aldi hundreds of times, unless I need an item Aldi doesn't sell or want a name-brand, nothing is better where I live grocery-store wise for produce. Meat is okay (I prefer Schnucks). Quite a contrast to your experience.

I visited Houston several years ago when Aldi opened its 1st store there. My brother (who still lived in Houston didn't understand my hype) and didn't shop there frequently afterwards so maybe it's just a Midwest thing.

I've been to Publix, Wegmans, Trader Joe's, etc. and nothing compares to H-E-B for "standard" grocery shopping and Central Market for luxury/upscale stuff.

does it work at Central Market too?
Surely they work at central market. The checkout payment system is identical to what heb has. I'll get one anyways. If it doesn't work, I'll save the heb card for football tailgate season.

While you're getting this deal in-store, stop by the bakery and grab the free donut (coupon is in the My H-E-B app, expires 6/6/2021).

You completely misunderstood me. I did not say anything negative about HEB. HEB is very good and maintains good standard. What I meant is that the way HEB handles business is typical of good places in US. But in Texas standard it is exceptional because most other places such as auto services, property management companies, etc. are below par and extort money from people. Hence, it feels like HEB is exceptional whereas this should be typical when it comes to service and standard. For instance, the 2.5 star (google or yelp review) services in Boston are better than 4.5 star services in Texas (except Austin perhaps). That is what I meant by low expectation of people, nothing personal.

Bro idk what happened to you down here but I'm sorry to hear that. Saying people in Boston are nicer compared to texan hospitality... idk how to respond to that. Only Cleveland folks are more bitter than Boston folks in my years of traveling the country for work.

Let's not even bring New York/New Jersey into this... they are special... aholes.

Please tell me which state has "auto services, property management companies, etc." above par? ConfusedRoll Eyes (Sarcastic)

It is not only about management companies. State laws are different. In Texas, almost every state law helps the greedy corporate and renters have almost 0 right. I rented in two places, MA and TX. In MA, there are rules that prevent landlords or management companies to do whatever they want and go away with it. In TX, I could not even reach out for any existing help from authorities. No one even picks up the phone or respond to email. Just search renters' right in MA and the same in TX. You will see.

Well, you are right about NY. I am talking about quality of service, not hospitality. Let me give you an example. Say you rented an apartment. In MA, if you place a request for repair, it will get done within a day or on the same day. In TX, it often takes month and same day response is almost impossible. But I have heard better things about places in Austin. so YMMV. This is my experience in 3 different 4.5+ star places in TX and 4 different around 3 star places in Boston. Plus as mentioned in the previous comment, tenants have way less rights in TX compared to MA.
