If the deal comes with Slickdeals Rewards (Cashback), it's usually a bad deal.
This laptop is supposedly better than the recent Dell G15 10870h deal. It has a much better display (165Hz, 100% sRGB), higher powered 3060 (115w compared to 90W) and a more efficient processor.

If you got the Amex offer, then this costs about the same as that deal. Worth noting though, I was not able to apply any other coupons on top of it. Confirmed with the CS as well, no other discounts possible.
The other deal is this one with Intel CPU:
https://deals.dell.com/en-us/mpp/...etail/8z5o

With the STUDENT100 coupon, the price comes down to 1100 and stacking with Amex offer brings the total to $980+ tax.

You can't choose to upgrade to rgb-keyboard although some other configs I tried could
This one comes with the RGB backlit keyboard so you can change the backlighting to any color you want. Bottom of the product page mentions this and my unit from this deal came with it. You are stuck with the orange backlit keyboard on the Intel deal.

You are right. My mistake to confuse them.

I was debating between the Zephyrus series and this Dell G15. You should look at some real reviews but here are my initial thoughts:

Dell G15 Pros
  • Bang for the buck ($1100+tax if you have the AMEX promo)
  • Large 86Whr battery is pretty good for this price
  • Webcam (Basic webcam is better than nothing)
  • 115w 3060 scores ~8400 graphics out of the box in Time Spy
  • Seems quiet compared to other gaming laptops, I don't have much experience here
Dell G15 Cons
  • Large and heavy, especially when you compare it to the Asus Zephy lineup (It's a step back for me in portability but I'll deal with it for the price)
  • Runs kinda hot(?) with default fan profile but this seems to be on par with similar laptops. I may turn up the fan profile to cool things down more
Asus Zephy G14/G15 Pros
  • USB-C charging (Can't take full advantage of the GPU with this but helps with portability. You can also use this feature to do a 1 USB-C cable "docking" setup)
  • Light and thin like an ultrabook
  • Probably has a better screen than Dell's 1080p 165hz 300nits display but I'm happy with this Dell
Asus Zephy G14/G15 Cons
  • Expensive
  • 1 RAM slot is soldered (Other Asus models may not have this)
  • No webcam (Might not be a problem for you?)
  • TBD if plugging in a monitor/dock that has USB-C PD will kill your laptop if you have the regular AC charger plugged in. A thread of 2020 G14 owners had this issue.

Get into a debate with this guy one time over a Gigabyte gaming laptop and he's gotta try and hit back... my post is in no way an attempt to troll and am offering a personal perspective from previous experiences. I sincerely hope they've improved the screen, as raw Hz and sRGB aren't all that matter. That was my sole point. Build quality so the screen doesn't flex with minor pressure, viewing angle, gray-to-gray response time, and other (minor) considerations may be more important to me than others, so I'm trying to offer up my personal findings to illustrate what isn't always listed on the product page.

I want all of those things to be improved on this addition, but never said this one was guaranteed to fall short in those same areas. It's no doubt the screen is a great improvement over the 120Hz base model as multiple reviews have noted; and it looks quite good -- especially since they use this on the Alienware R5 Ryzen edition (144Hz and 300Hz are available on R4, sir). I'm just hoping it's not a pig with lipstick like the rest of the G15 line. I'm also aware of the price point in that you can't expect a Ferrari for the price of a Buick, so I just want the cost to reflect the appropriate quality. Gaming laptops, unfortunately, are so driven by hardware specs that they lack what I hope to use everyday -- hence my purchase of the Gigabyte Aero. Not everyone likes/dislikes what I do, but hopefully they now have more to consider after my post if they plan to use it for school, work, or anything else apart from gaming.
Yeah kinda stuck on where to go at the moment. I was actually waiting on the Legion 5 or Legion 5 Pro since the specifications and features list seemed amazing for the price, but real world testing by actual reviewers indicate that the Legion 5 and the Legion 5 Pro are actually a bit disappointing with a LOT of chassis and build quality compromises especially on the regular Legion 5.

Then I was looking at this as maybe a good budget option that still met my minimum requirements (5800H and 3060) but people have been complaining about significant sacrifices here as well (no MUX, big and bulky, very ho-hum design and build quality). The Omen seems to have the low wattage version of the 3060 (although HP has some new laptops coming down the pipeline that may clear the Omen's weaknesses). Like should I just go back the ASUS and the Zephyrus laptops? Maybe hope to catch an open box on Best Buy?

I just got the Dell G15 5510 in the mail today that has the i7 10870H and RTX 3060. Ran Cinebench R23 for 10 minutes on multi core and single core for 10 minutes each. HWinfo shows that the CPU ran at an average of 72C. Icy! Unfortunately though, even at 72C the laptop fans are just slightly loud still. All around I'm happy with my purchase at $914 before tax. If anyone has any questions, feel free to let me know. I'll try my best to answer. I'm a bit of a noobie when it comes to tech. I'm hoping to see what your guys' scores and temps are with the Ryzen 5800H CPU in this chassis.

Cinebench scores on my i7 is
CPU (multi core) 8868
CPU (single core)1208

It's alright in doors. One more notch of brightness would be nice but I can't complain at $889 before taxes for a i7 10870H and a RTX 3060. I had a laptop with a 1660 Ti and a i7 9750H before this one (MSI GL75) 9SD with a upgraded 144hz screen. I'm honestly missing the bigger size 17.3 inch screen more so than the picture quality. But it does seem like the colors are just slightly less punchy. I don't really notice that while playing a game though. The contrast is a little low, and noticeable. But I also have a 4k HDR TV I usually look at. (Sony x900F) The build quality is super nice on this G15. This is the first laptop I've had that can be flipped open with 1 finger. Out of the few laptops I've tried the past few years, this one's the most sturdy feeling. Beating the Asus RoG Strix, Dell G5, and MSI GL75's build quality, that I owned. No flex on the screen for me, and the back light bleed on my screen is almost nonexistent. Just a tiny bit on the top left corner, and where the web cam is. The fan noise is just a little obnoxious on my model once it gets up to 70 something degrees, almost making a whistling noise. I'm happy about the low thermals on my i7 G15, but really, was mostly happy about that because I was expecting a much quieter laptop. Not really the case. Maybe I can mess with the fan curve sometime, and see what happens. This 15 inch laptop is heavier than my 17 inch MSI GL75. I added a 2TB M.2 to this G15 using this mounting bracket that can be bought on Amazon. Stupidly, you have to buy this mounting bracket separately, to add a second SSD. But I can vouch that it is the part that's needed.

I ordered this today, but delivery is estimated for 7/9/2021 so the deal may not be active by the time I get it. But if it is, I'll be able to help answer questions.

This is interesting, I was reviewing my order today and I noticed the "unit price" for this laptop said $1053.64 which I thought was odd since I paid $1224.99. I expanded it and it has an itemized list of things. The one glaring one that I would not want to pay for is "McAfee LiveSafe Consumer 12 Month Subscription" for $42.84. But I already tried getting it removed via live chat and they said they can't remove it. Still a good deal, but annoying that I'll be paying for software that I'll remove on day 1. But for anyone interested in the super detailed itemization here it is in full:
