I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

Is there a place / number I should use to check if I qualify? I have an Amazon chase visa not sure if that disqualifies me from the offer

The only card that would make you ineligible would be if you already have a Sapphire card. Chase only allows you to have one Sapphire card at a time.

As for approval odds, you will want to have a clean credit report and a good/excellent score.

If I downgraded my csr a few days ago and it's been more than 48 months since I received a bonus, am I good to apply for this card now? How long should I wait to be sure I qualify for this?
My opinion (others will have to confirm) is that yes, you will be eligible for the bonus, but the "system" needs to recognize that you downgraded (are not on Sapphire). That apparently is not instantaneous for purposes of the bonus (whatever check that's using a snapshot in time). The cycle out time could be 2 weeks to a month - others will have to comment. My suggestion is to apply for this card 1 or 2 days before the promo ends, allowing adequate time from the time you downgrade.

Thank you for the clear answer sir, it's greatly appreciated.

That's good news, I'm at around 800 so feeling pretty confident in that regard.

Thank you. That is more of what I meant, redeem for money back instead of having to use some on air mileage.
Do keep in mind that the points are worth more when redeeming for travel. For example from the title, 100K points = $1250 for travel, but it's only $1000 if you redeem for money back.

I was looking at card and thinking if there is any benefit of this card over Freedom?
Other than obvious travel perks that I do not use.
I hear also that there are no cash cashbacks (only giftcards).
Including quarterly categories, seems like Freedom can be better deal than with cashback.
I may be doing comparison wrong as points do not translate directly to cash value

They aren't mutually exclusive. In fact there are many who would recommend you get 3 or 4 chase cards to maximize points earnings.

Often dubbed the "Chase Trifecta" or "Chase Quartet". The Freedom cards technically are a "cash back" card, but also earns Ultimate Rewards points. If you pair a Freedom card with a Sapphire card you can pool your points together and get access to Chases transfer partners using UR points.

If you are only in a position to get one card, look at each cards bonus categories and perks and determine which fits your spending habits best.

Hope that helps!

I always do these bonuses at the wrong time. I applied in April because I thought 80k was good. It went from 80k to 60k last Nov so I thought 80k was the highest it could go.

If you're picking a card for earning points through % cashback the Freedom is better. The point of this card is
  1. Transfer freedom points into this card and the points instantly worth 1.25x on Chase Travel
  2. Get the 100k bonus every 4 years. 100k back on 4k spending is 25% which is much higher than 5% from Freedom. (Minus $95 annual fee, which used to be waived when applying in branch)
  3. Additional perks compared to Freedom (0 foreign transaction fee, LDW on rental cars, etc) which may or may not be useful. But these are free perks.

A valid strategy is to earn 5x freedom points as much as possible but do not redeem it. Every 4th year apply for the Sapphire, earn bonus and redeem all the points for 1.25c each. Downgrade the Sapphire to a freedom after 1 year and repeat.

Crap, I signed up for the 65,000 points for spending $4,000 just a few months ago. I feel gypped, since this gives you 50% more points!

I think it takes about 2 weeks for the updated referral to show up.

That will be good. When does it go live in branch? As someone mentioned it is still 80k in branch with waived annual fee for the 1st year.

HOLY CONNOLLY! Could you please ask your wife when that offer becomes available? Someone else said that they went to the branch and got an INFERIOR offer to the one in this thread (i.e., the offer BEFORE 100K was effective)

How did you get them to adjust for you? Did for myself and my wife a month ago so might give it a try.
I sent a secure message (via their on-line portal) saying something like "Hi, I see the sign-up bonus has increased since I signed up and I haven't gotten my bonus yet. Any chance you could match the current offer on my account Big Grin"
