I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

So the old freedom is not the way to go?
My account shows that freedom unlimited was pre-approved with $200 bonus.
I won't get the bonus by doing product change though.
Thanks!
That's correct! If you are interested in signing up the Unlimited for $200 sign-up bonus in the near future, then you should downgrade the CSR to some other no-fee card. Downgrading to the old Freedom is YMMV since it is no longer available and has been replaced by Freedom Flex. But another member reported he has successfully downgraded to the old Freedom.

My wife is in the process of applying online and it's been at the spinning "Verifying your information" screen for 20 minutes now. How unusual is this?
We are thinking there may be an issue because she is a housewife and categorized her source of income as "Other" (since household income is from me). Still, we expected a denial message or request for further information if that was the case.
It can't be verifying for 20 minutes. Most likely the application was stuck in the middle. You can call 1-800-432-3117 to check the application status. If it is found no record of your application, it means the application was not successfully submitted.
You can also call the Reconsideration line 888-270-2127 two days later to find out the application status. In case Recon questions about the income source, just say it is the household income. She can always use household income when applying for credit cards. In fact, it is legal under the CARD Act of 2009[bankrate.com] and a 2013 update from the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

Chase Ultimate Rewards points don't expire as long as your card account is open. Since the plain Sapphire card is within the Ultimate Rewards family, you will retain the points after the card conversion.

The plain sapphire is a downgrade only card for people who don't want to pay the fee. It's not advertised
