I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

I currently have a CSR, Freedom Flex and Amazon Chase cards. Is there still a way to make this work by downgrading?
The Freedom Flex and Amazon cards are irrelevant.

The Chase Sapphire Reserve is the card that preempts your application.

I think most people are unaware of the option. Of those that are aware, few are willing to take the risk of something going amiss or willing to take the extra effort involved in the MDP. Of those who are willing, fewer still have the resources to muster up $8K worth of purchases in 3 months.

And of those very few... only one reported back that he was successful in getting both cards.
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=149450413&postcount=4323

For me, I would have come out ahead by applying for both cards. But I just hated the idea of wasting so much of the CSR benefits (I have curtailed travel during the COVID epidemic). And I wanted to preserve my options (the CSP made my 4th new credit card in the past 24 months, the CSR would have been my 5th).
Exactly what I am thinking. I have had CSR since Jan 2017, it is the best card I am really like to pay annual fee comparing to AMEX platimum which is so tough on reimbursement. Also you are right, almost most of those benefits from CSR are not useful for me.
The most features from CSR that I like are:
1, 1.5x travel redemption.
2, Airport lounges from priority pass.
3, Global entry.
4, $300 travel reimbursement is so easy to get comparing to AMEX.
But since the pandemic, there is no plan of travel recently, so increased annual fee from CSR is waste to me, and 100k bonus points from CSP is too good to miss.

I've had both amex platinum and CSR the past 4 years and I prefer the amex.

One of my friends also prefer AMEX platinum.
Maybe I am just not that wise to use some features offered by AMEX.

Anyone know how much longer the 100k sign up bonus will last? I'm late to the party but plan to downgrade my CSR (signed up in 2017) and then reapply for the CSP for 100k bonus in 1-2 weeks.

If you fly a lot out of airports with centurion lounges, they're arguably the best in the business and require a plat (or centurion) card to get in.

Other than that the only reason to prefer the amex would be if you just happen to be the rare person who can actually get value out of all the weird, highly service specific, annual credits they keep adding as they keep jacking up the annual fee-- otherwise it's pretty tough to come close to being able to offset the AF.

As to CSR, honestly that's tougher to justify than it used to be now too both with the bit higher AF and that they've made the CSP a lot less crappy card, and (so far) don't appear to be renewing PYB, or the other covid-related benefits like the DD credits, instacart credit, etc).... though if your specific travel needs are such you often need to use the portal for best value (for example you fly SWA a lot) then the 1.5x vs 1.25 might be a deciding factor for you... (there's also PP access, but a bunch of cards give that anymore, I think we've got at least 3 or 4 available PP memberships at this point from cards)

I have CSR right now. Can I sign up for this now or should I cancel CSR and then sign up for CSP?

I have had the CSR for a while so I should be eligible for signup bonuses again.

*Disregard, I should have read a little more. Now I just have to see if it is better to downgrade or just straight cancel it.

Is there any easy way to check when I last got the sign up bonus for the CSR? I have a bit of a complicated history with the card... originally applied in 2016, then downgraded in 2018, then re-applied in 2019 (don't think I got a sign up bonus at that time).

Does that disqualify me for this CSP promo?

Downgrade to a card with no AF such as Chase Unlimited Freedom or Chase Freedom. That's the better approach.

DO NOT CANCEL your existing Sapphire card in order to apply for this deal. Your canceled card will take 30 days to clear Chase's system. Instead, do a product change (downgrade). Product change is much faster and preserves your credit history.

If your memory is correct, there is no need to check your bonus history.
  • If you applied for a new Chase Sapphire Reserve card in 2019, you would not have received a bonus for that sign-up. Chase's 48-month rule has been in effect since 2018. Since your previous card was issued in 2016, presumably that sign-up bonus would preempt you from receiving a bonus in 2019.
  • If you did a product change in 2019 (NOT "re-applied"), again there is no reason to check your bonus history. Chase does not give sign-up bonuses for product changes.
  • And the sign-up bonus you received from your initial application in 2016 would have been awarded within 4 months of card approval, which is well outside the 48-month window required of the present offer.

You should check your other eligibility issues:
https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=147783607&postcount=850

And consider your sign-up strategy (credit to Tazmania99):
