I mentioned the offer to my wife who is a Chase employee and she pulled it up on her internal system. It had a note that they had additional offers if you apply in a branch. You get the 100k points, 1st year AF waived, and a $50 grocery credit. So essentially an extra $145 for applying in the branch.
Wow. No brainer if you are eligible for the bonus.
I signed up for 80k offer just last week. Can I get chase to make it 100k?

interesting, were these travel expenses or just regular purchases?
I need to book plane tickets and may not have my credit before I need to buy them and if I can get 1.25 "paying myself back" on these I would be perfectly fine with that
What's the logic of having the Sapphire Preferred and Reserve simultaneously?
The decision to pick up the Sapphire Preferred is a stand-alone decision, based on the merits of the 100K sign-up bonus. The question is whether it is worthwhile to also add the Chase Reserve.
For those that can take full advantage of the travel perks[chase.com], the Sapphire Reserve is worth it despite the $550 annual fee.
For those that have accumulated a large cache of UR points, the Sapphire Reserve's 1.5 cents per point redemption rate (via the Pay Yourself Back option or by booking travel via UR travel portal) might make it attractive.
Those who are interested in picking up both cards should consider the MDD to pick up both sign-up bonuses. However, few do so.
Those that decide to get the Reserve after having already received their Preferred card, doing a product change from their existing Freedom account is a viable option. However, product changes are not eligible for sign-up bonuses.
Alex, your account ending in xxx was change from a Sapphire Reserve® Card to your current Freedom® Card on August 30, 2021
You are currently eligible to change your existing credit card to the Sapphire Preferred® Card product, but you won't be eligible to receive the new cardmember bonus if you change products.
Alex, I take it that what you posted is a direct quote from a Chase message.
Please note that the response says nothing about whether you qualify to apply for a new Sapphire Preferred card. Instead, it comments on your eligibility to make a product change from your existing credit card to a Sapphire Preferred card.
It is likely that you are eligible now to apply online for a new Sapphire Preferred card.
For in-branch application, Chase seems to rely on a different system of screening applicants. I think it would be wise for you to wait a week, as you said, before applying in-branch. (The $95 annual fee is waived in-branch.)
Yes, it's a direct quote. I asked them if I was able to apply for the CSP now and they sent me that message. Unfortunately the only day I can go is Friday. I do hope it's still around then.
I've checked in the apply for new credit card and the CSP doesn't populate.
bummer but thank you for that info I was not aware.
Wonder if I could grab some gift cards at home depot or Lowes or even Kroger for travel (don't recall what travel GCs they sell) and go that route instead.
Have to be concerned that the purchase would show as GCs even at those stores thus negating the pay yourself back part.
But then you have to fly and spend money. I thought cash is king so that you can use it to invest and earn even more cash.
Not sure if you're being facetious but that's a very rudimentary way of spending/investing money. Sure, getting 1.25 cents per point is decent, but if I have a flight planned in a couple months and can get 2.5-3 centers per point, isn't that a much better return?
You cash out 1.25 cents and would expect to double that by investing within a few months?
You can certainly buy airline gift cards to meet the minimum spend as they will be coded as purchases and also qualify for 1.25x PYB redemption if buying from stores like Home Depot and Lowe's. However, please remember that by buying your ticket with gift cards you're giving up all sorts of travel protections you are getting with your CSP.

Anyone know if Chase would refund the $550 annual fee if I cancel with a month?
My initial plan was to downgrade my CSR to a Freedom card then sign up for CSP, but I totally forgot to do it before the renewal date and have been charged the annual fee.
Yes, you can get a prorated refund of the annual fee. If you downgrade the CSR within 30 days the fee posted to your account, you can request a full refund.

Thanks for confirmation, I'm still within the 30 day period so I'll request a full refund.
I think I have to wait 30 days after the downgrade before I'm eligible to sign up for the CSP, hopefully the deal won't expire yet.
I'm gonna transfer all the points from the CSR to another card then transfer them back when I upgrade back to a CSR so I can take advantage of the 1.5X redemption.
Indeed, you don't need to wait 30 days for Chase to complete the downgrade. Product change usually takes 3 to 5 days in general. Since Chase increased the bonus points in June, the process has been prolonged to 1 to 2 weeks. You may try to sign up 2 weeks after you request the product change.

If I am added as additional user on my wife's card, would I be ineligible to get future chase card offers, since they always have 24 month cool off period?
If anyone wants to transfer points to Aer Lingus, the 30% bonus transfer offer ends on Sep 26th. 130,000 Avios points on Aer Lingus is worth a free peak business-class round trip ticket from the east coast to Ireland -- it's 100,000 for off peak. Cost varies but I saw tickets for about $1900 yesterday.
