They repeatedly say in the description that it's good for small dogs but I don't see how. Why would a small dog appreciate a bowl being raised but a big dog is okay bending down? Seems like it would be the opposite

They mean small in terms of food capacity.

My dachshund has back issues, the doctor said to raise his head while eating because it stresses the hip area. but not sure about the big dogs lol.

Too bad the large one isn't on sale too. I have this in large and I noticed my Boxer seems to eat more with it and chokes on his good less. I think it's worth it.
