Saw that Camping World had some fishing gear on clearance and I was looking to give bait casting a try this summer. The combo is $80 at other online retailers, so this looked like a deal. Reel gets decent reviews on Bass Pro and Amazon, nice entry-level baitcaster. Free shipping on orders over $99, otherwise it was $10 for me. Taxes, too, I suspect, but not in Oregon!

10% off your first order for giving them your email. My total was $58. Waiting to see if it ships as some of the "reviews" complained about non-shipping orders. YMMV.

Don't need it, however appreciate any/all the fishing deals!
From a guy who owns a lot of baitcasters (Many over $300) and works on them... I can attest that this is a great reel if you dont want to spend a lot. My Tatula Elite will surely outcast it. My Revo Toro Beast will out torque it. The Taula SV will cast light lures better than it. But for $150+ a reel less, The Blackmax is a great all arounder that will reel in up to 7 pound bass (my max in Illinois) without a problem . Better that Krap King. Much more reliable internal parts. Cant speak for price or the seller, but seems like a fair deal to me. If youre a noob to baitcasting, Debo on Youtube has the best intro to baitcasting tutorials. Start practicing with cheap 15#ish mono. Dont overfill the spool. Let the line sit on the spool for a day or so before first casting it. That way the line wont blow up off the spool as easily as when first put on. If you have to cut it off, its cheap to replace.
Nice deal! Tempted but I already have this reel. I actually bought the same combo (Walmart) and sold the rod... should have waited Frown

BTW: there's an extra 10% off coupon code you can get by signing up for the mailing list. I saw a pop-up on my phone while browsing the site. If you order two of these, it ends up costing $104~ after tax (at least to SoCal) which is a great deal if you're looking for a couple setups or if you want to buy one for you and one for a buddy.

I 'converted' the reel into a "BFS" reel by buying a shallow spool off Aliexpress. Loaded it with 4lb or 6lb Yozuri Hybrid and it's a great 'budget' setup for that kind of fishing. I caught my first *targeted* LMB (2lbs~) on it drop-shotting - it was kind of dumb luck but it was fun catching a bigger fish on lighter gear like that. NOTE: it's not the most ideal/optimal BFS reel but it works in a pinch. Obviously the other BFS dedicated reels (like the Aldebaran, Calcutta BFS, SLX BFS, Alphas Air TW, etc) out there offer more precision casting and control but they are quite expensive too.

I'm more of a spinning reel type but repped for fishing equipment.

It's a decent deal considering inflationary prices on everything and especially fishing gear. The bmax3 is a good starter bait casting reel and the rod is decent quality.

No thanks I'll stick to my Ronco Pocket Fisherman, this deal doesn't have enough HDMI for me.

Hope whoever is coming with you is familiar with baitcasting, or else you're gonna regret this purchase, lol

Great combo but is often $55-60 at Walmart, etc. Still, support all fishing deals!

This is probably why I only have spincasting and spinning reels in my arsenal. I remember one bird's next mess as a teen and gave up baitcasting reels. Aside from that, I'm pretty hard on equipment, so the closed face of a spincasting reel is helpful. Each to their own, though.

I have tried to use baitcasters many times and always fail. Even watched YT videos on how and still a huge fail. I have 2 baitcasters and bring them with me every time...but it always ends up being a birds nest...gave them both away.

If you do try it again, spool it up with thicker mono or braid to start off with and use maximum brakes and start backing off the brakes when you get comfortable.

I would also get the rubber practice plugs to throw around your back yard.

This may sound odd, but the mid tier and higher end baitcasters may be easier and less frustrating to learn on. It defeats the whole "slick deal" mantra by buying a more expensive product.

I know a lot of people love bait casters, and they're all the rage now, but I like fishing because it's peaceful and relaxing. It's like outdoor nature therapy, and that's the main reason I'm willing to do the work of packing up the gear to go, and buying the worms.

I mean no offense, but your post makes bait casting sound like the opposite of peaceful and relaxing, lol. 😄

Regardless, up voted for a fishing deal!!

bait casters require tension to be adjusted for the amount of forward weight and line/spool resistance. Do a drop test with a weight on the front. The reel should not keep spinning after the weight hits the ground.

but my main reason for posting is trying to find some salt water surf cast rigs... anyone know of any deals?
