I want to get this but I told myself I have to watch the movies I bought last month before I buy more. I'm really strict on myself.

I have the Panny's 820 & 420 and no skipping for me.
I have the much cheaper LG ubk90 and about 1 in 3 discs skip/freeze/hang up. It's usually limited to 100gb three layer discs. It's very frustrating.

I bought this at MSRP $100 and even at that price it's worth it IMO. The picture upgrade as well as the Atmos soundtrack is phenomenal.

Can anyone owning this set confirm what is the supported audio formats on the 4K version. Does it have immersive audio (Atmos/DTS-X) or just surrounds (5/7 channel) alone?

Will the storyline be any different from the BRay edition?

Reading the comments feel sad for those bought Bluray and think this is the end. Will check back when 8K remaster is a thing.
There will not be mainstream 8k discs. The human eye can't see a difference between 4k and 8k on a TV at normal seating distance, almost nothing is shot in 8k, and the discs couldn't hold 8k movies at a comparable bitrate.

Good point, and is logical considering he has apparently also shunned disk players, though doesn't explain why he felt compelled to post in a thread about films on disk.
It's like a pseudo humblebrag. To post about one's shunning of physical media in a thread about a deal on physical media though, I would say in response "weird flex but OK."

That's why I bought this on iTunes awhile back and just keep getting it upgraded with every new version. I'm shocked so many people still have a disc player. Haven't had one in years…
Until digital has the quality of a disc, discs won't go away. 4K digital is not the same quality as 4K physical.

Well technically it kinda has both. Main(core) codec is Dolby TrueHD 7.1.
On top of that you have the object based Dolby Atmos codec.
If you have a receiver that is capable of decoding object based "Atmos" you will get it, if not it will use main core codec.

No not at all, only the PQ & AQ will be different.

The problem with this logic is that a lot of the 4k uhd Blu-rays now are upscaled from a 2k master even though they were shot at 4k+. I very much see studios releasing a lot of current feaux 4k titles in actual 4k after they are rerendered and slapping a 8k label on it after they upscaled the true 4k render to 8k.
