The product looks good but I'm trying to figure out what I would be giving up if I just use some cheaper alexa/google controlled LED strips?
Only major advantage I could find is that you don't need internet for the Hue bulbs to work (even though you will need a wireless access point so that they can communicate with the hub and app)
Hear ya.. and after i installed mine 2 years ago , spend lot of time in installation, messed up stuff to get the wow factor just few time. They make lots of changes to their product and you need to buy new stuff all the time for couple hours everyday if you use it.
I went back to regular lighting and now keeping it simple.
"and you need to buy new stuff all the time for couple hours everyday if you use it."
That's just simply not true. You don't need to buy new Hue stuff to continue to use their existing products. The Hue Bridge v1 still works.
I REALLY wish these didn't need the Bridge and could be controlled over Bluetooth using the APP. My Bridge worked for about 3 hr the first day and now it cant find Hue lights and has constant disconnects with the blue ring light on the unit always flashing
Ugh. No. Zigbee has fantastic range, and its limited bandwidth and interference with WiFi and Bluetooth are a clear advantage. Buy a new bridge, they're cheap on eBay. Mine works fine.
Having the exact same thoughts. Thinking about doing some accent lighting but these Philips Hue lights are like 5-10x more expensive than alternative options and I'm not sure what benefit there is to rolling with them vs alternatives. Are these really worth the markup over cheaper Alexa-compatible options?
The benefits are ecosystem, ease of use, and a plethora of accessories that don't require the use of a phone or an always-on-microphone. If you already have said microphone and it's your primary way to turn on the lights, then the advantages are slim.
Anybody get a shipment confirmation yet? Last time I was in for a week before the order was cancelled. They also have 2m + 1m extension light strips for $65 each, limit 2 per member. Those shipped a day after order.

Had the same thing happen to me. Mine shipped this time around.
If you bought it last time when Costco had it for $100 and got cancelled due to lack of inventory. They honor the sale price, just need to contact customer service

Just called Costco customer service, they wouldn't honor the previous sales price of $100 even though they canceled my order. Has anyone been able to get the price adjusted? If so, how?

These are way brighter than the bulbs and meant for entertainment areas.

Yes, that's what I do with mine. If you're using windows, no need for adapter for light syncing but you do need to install the app.

Unless of course your internet goes down.
