Well, went ahead and picked up a set. Had a 10% discount, plus the 5% cash back I get on Chase Freedom right now, comes to about $120 including local tax.

Seems like a good deal, especially since I've been wanting to pick up a drill for some time. However I still have a little buyer's remorse since I had been wanting to "spend once cry once" and get a more high end tool. But in all honesty, I I'll probably only use it a couple times a year for small projects. Or maybe more since now that I have the tools I might be more inclined to use them. I think 80% chance I keep it.
Don't beat yourself up, you got a great deal.

To "buy once cry once" you easily would've spent 2-3x as much.

New home owner here. I am looking for something which will help me with stuff like finishing the basement, cut drywall, wood for framing, and maybe also help me with building a new deck. Will these tools do the job? Or am I better off with more known names like Dewalt, Milwaukee or craftsman etc?
These are fine for 95% of the average homeowner. Unless you depend on power tools for your income, these are a great value and will provide for DIY projects.

Just a heads up for anyone making returns at home Depot (for any reason). They will track your returns and patterns and you can be blocked from returning. If they scan your ID it goes into the system and they can track how many times you've returned without receipt.

This happened to me just as a regular customer. Didn't do anything wrong, I bought a bunch of stuff cos I was working on a big project and ended up returning stuff multiple times, sometimes without receipt. The computer denys my return without receipt now, prints out a warning when I last tried. They can't override it.

Ryobi tools are better and it's a better system anyway...

This isn't new. You should be grateful they even accept your return without a receipt. How do they know where you got it if you don't have proof of purchase? Maybe you got it at a competitors for 75% off and then returning there for full price, then they're losing money.. or even worse off you could grabbed it at another location not pay for it, then come to this one return it, that costs them money too.. By the way, if you have a receipt they won't take your ID and track your returns because there's no need to. You have proof you bought it there, it's only when you don't have a receipt they do need your ID for reasons I mentioned earlier. They'll let you slide without a receipt a few times bcuz they understand lost receipts happen but you apparently have made losing receipts a Habit so they're not going to continue letting you take advantage of their generosity anymore. You've clearly used your allotted amount. There's shoplifters that make a living doing exactly what you're doing, so for them to be able to have a location where buyers can come buy what they need they have to minimize their losses. It's not rocket science.
Instead of crying about it, keep your receipt if you plan to return it. It's really that simple. If you're prone to lose things take a picture. Everyone got cameras on their phones now, don't they even make them without one. Spend 5 seconds snap a photo and your issues solved continue on being a habitual returner.
One last thing, it's not just Home Depot, just about every store does that. If you have no receipt they need your ID to keep track of your returns there. Otherwise there's people who return things everyday, at each of their locations. Some stores participate in a system that includes multiple stores, Home Depot, Lowe, OReillys, AutoZone, Ace Hardware, ect.. for the same purpose, it's just kinda weird that someone returns things at each one of these stores everyday, it's a different one. They lose a receipt every night? Doubt it, those types their info will be forwarded to the local authorities to further investigate as they clearly making a living from that. which is called an organized theft ring.
This is what drives prices higher for the rest of us legit shoppers.

A new home owner here. I just need tools for basic things around the house. I don't think I even need a saw. Is this still a good deal even if I don't have any use for the saw? Also, please help me out, a total newbie when it comes to all this. If I purchase this set, will I need to buy the drill bits separately or is this set sufficient?
Thanks
The saw you might use it on cutting roots if you have small trees. Probably branches. It's nice to have one handy.

I got one today since I needed an impact drill. I was gonna wait for something nice like a brushless model but this one is not bad. I used it to drill thru a pressure treated wood.

You need to buy those drill+screwdriver bit combo similar to these: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../205157373

Those bits are really handy. I have one for the longest time. That's all you need.

This kit isn't bad. I bought one since I bought the 2 batteries+ the free tool deal and the batteries are compatible.

For the price and what I need for simple diy like hanging some curtain rods etc. it's more than enough.

Still $129 in store. I picked one up today. I had $5 off $50 email coupon which took $10 off $100 instead. I used Chase so 5% back.

I see so many listings on eBay too which are cheaper. Does the ryobi warranty apply for tools purchased on eBay or does it have to be bought from Home Depot ?

I had the same thought as you a few years ago when I purchased my house. No regrets on going with Ryobi as a DIY homeowner doing small projects around the house and buying additional tools refurbed/preowned and deals from Home Depot. I haven't had any tool go bad on me yet. I figure if I did burn out a tool, I'll upgrade then but haven't needed to.

Seems to me there's a WHOLE lot of, 'It's good enough for homeowners but not for pros' stuff in this, and other, threads.

Over the past 20 years, I have had dozens of Ryobi battery tools. Some remain unused because they came in a package deal back when I needed batteries and the price was right. Know what? I have had exactly one Ryobi tool fail. And, it was their lowest end, blue,18V blower/sweeper. The blower/impeller wheel broke at the hub. And, that happened in the past 2 weeks. OK, one knock on Ryobi - That part is not available.

I have used Ryobi drills, impact drivers, 5.5" circular saws, blowers, weed-eaters, flashlights, reciprocating saws, multi-tool, grinder, etc. both professionally on rental property projects and for personal use. Based on my experience, they have performed extremely well.

I tried a DeWALT drill years ago - The plastic housing twisted to an unacceptable degree and it was returned. I had the original Makita 9.6V drills, etc. (later the 12V versions) and they were under-powered. But, so is most lower voltage stuff. I have a corded Milwaukee circular saw but it is heavy, cumbersome, etc. Sure, it makes a deeper, faster cut but it ain't battery-powered! I also have corded Makita reciprocating saws and a Milwaukee Sawzall - They work well. But, again, they need a cord. The Sawzall's weight comes in handy when cutting steel clamped in a vise. But, I have several vises and all have outlets within inches. I'll also mention that there just isn't any substitute for a Bosch SDS-Plus 11236VS or similar rotary hammer/drill. Those things are nothing short of amazing. The first time I used one, I was shocked. Mine were bought used and have seen a good bit of action without a single failure. BUT, they have cords - Great cords - But, still, cords.

A fair estimate is that I use the Ryobi battery tools 98% of the time. Of course, I am not (generally) into production work where I have to frame 100+ feet of wall a day. But, doing rehab work on rental properties will tax almost any power tool.

I wrote this in an attempt to clear the air a bit on the Ryobi-is-second-rate notion that seems to be present in threads like this one. YMMV but I appreciate the reliability and the battery compatibility of Ryobi tools. I do not, particularly, like their upper management for reasons that I won't go into. Except to say that I absolutely despise their promo emails that employ rapidly changing images - Blink, blink, blink, etc. VERY annoying. (As is that bank of animated Emojis that appears to the right of the box I am currently typing in!)

I just ordered a 40V Ryobi lawnmower (not because I really cut a lot of grass - I don't) but because I need something more than a weed-eater now and then and a gas mower would be more trouble to use/maintain. I also ordered an 18V Ryobi 6.5" circular saw because the 5.5" models won't quite cut through some "wet" treated lumber now and then - due to wet lumber being thicker than dry lumber. But, my little 5.5" saws have seen a lot of action and have never failed.

Ryobi ain't perfect. But, generally, they have two types of batteries and that's it. You don't need the whole gamut of 9V, 12/14V, 18/20V, 36/40V, 60V, etc. That is a very important factor for me.

OK. So, I take care of my tools. They are not rained on, they are almost never over-heated, they are oiled/sharpened/cleaned as required, etc. I wish I could say they have never been dropped but I can't. However, the few times my Ryobi tools have been dropped, the worst result was dented or scarred plastic. It's amazing that one impact driver is still operational and in one piece!

Maybe I am lucky.

Maybe Ryobi is second rate. I doubt it.

One last thing. I believe they warrant their stuff for 3 years minimum. Maybe that's incorrect because I didn't bother to check. I had a battery once that was replaced under warranty. At the time, the process was not a simple one. I don't know how it works now for reasons that should be obvious, if you've read this far.
